It seems to me that people seldom mention the reason I own guns. I don't own them for self defense or to protect my stuff. Most of them I don't hunt with. Sometimes I do encounter a varmint that needs shooting. I have had neighbors that needed shooting but I don't do that. I trade and shoot guns because I like to. If the second amendment, pro or con, is a big part of your life I wonder if you have much of a life. I liked hearing Joe Biden say everyone needs a shotgun. I celebrated by buying me a new one. I bought lots of guns cause they were cute. All my guns are toys. They are not tools although I once cut down a Christmas tree with a 16 ga double side by side. I don't call any of them weapons because that indicates TO ME use against people. I just own my guns because I own them and like them. I don't know why someone would not trust me to own guns. I also don't know why people who do own them wave them around and stick them in other peoples face.

You are welcome to own them becaue you think they make good planting sticks as far as I'm concerned. Just doesn't make any difference to me why .

I also don't know why people who do own them wave them around and stick them in other peoples face.

But I'm not sure what you mean by this however. Are you saying that many people you know are sticking guns in others faces as to threaten them ? I don't see that happening around me at all, so please explain.

Perhaps your talking about those few folks who have carried long guns into restraunts to make a point that it is legal to have and carry them. If that's the case I can see your point, other than I don't think they were sticking them in anybodys face..

I didn't think Gay pride parades with skimply clade studded leather gays marching down the street kissing each other was appropriate either.

And yet they got what they wanted didn't they? Maybe we could learn something from their tactics?

Many of us here take our gun rights seriously and that includes the second amendment. The threat to take them all is real and without people standing up and fighting for those rights you would have lost your ability to pursue your hobby long ago. First this, then that, until they are all prohibited.

Welcome to the real world. :)

I have guns because they are legal and I want to own them. I have yet to have anyone waive a gun in my face. Around here we consider that an imminent threat of death or great bodily harm.

I don't think we can use that tactic to be honest with you. The reason is how the media treats the behavior.

Perhaps I'm wrong but the propaganda machine (called the media) is favorable for one and not the other in my opinion. That makes for a whole different picture they paint when it comes to each.

Since you're not interested in the 2nd amendment and don't know why they want your guns, maybe you could write to some of your representatives and find out why they don't trust you.

Diane Feinstein, US Senator
If I could’ve gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them — Mr. and Mrs. America turn ‘em all in — I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.

I own guns because they provide me more utility than the money that I traded for them.

Some firearms are already prohibited, like new machine guns, new non sporting import rifles, new Chinese manufactured firearms. Some states like California prohibit new handguns that are not on the "approved" roster list. Some states already prohibit certain kinds of black rifles. Years ago, these firearms were not banned, now they are.

I own guns for the same reason many people own golf clubs. They enjoy a day on the golf course and I enjoy a day on the shooting range. My first gun was 1958, a used Remington 22 Model 512. When I began my love of the shooting sports the second amendment was never in question and did not need defended and there was little need to worry about personal defense or protecting one's property because people respected the rights of others and property of others.

The desire to own anything, vis-à-vis need, is the heart of individualism. You have however limited freedom when it comes to owning and using guns; waving them in someone’s face is one of those limitations. If you have witnessed this behavior, it should be reported. We should all be good stewards of gun ownership.

Since you appear to trivialize the 2nd amendment, it appears that you believe that you can quench your desire to purchase and use guns as you see fit. Fortunately there are those of us that are fighting to ensure your desire can be fulfilled.

Personally I have never chopped down a tree with a firearm but each to their own.

Bottom line in the USA is that the 2nd Amendment is the ONLY reason you get to enjoy your hobby. Without it we would have given up virtually all firearms and would be protected by our Government.
Why YOU own guns and how you use them is your business. I own several guns that haven't been fired in years but they are indeed tools. I also own several hammers that I haven't used in years but that doesn't mean they are no longer tools.
I own guns for fun, giggles, self defense, home defense, hunting and because I saw something I liked. I have never waved a gun in anyone's face nor had it happen to me. I know people that have been on both sides of that dance.

I just own my guns because I own them and like them.

It's great to live in a country where one can.

My firearms meet several needs, all of which are important and have changed over the years. But the underlying factor has always been pleasure in owning AND using my guns.

I wonder if statements like this are just for trolling.

The bill of rights in general is a big part of our lives. If you don't understand that, well, that's kinda sad.

Some folks have causes, pro and con. Some on this forum are true advocates of a pro-2a position, and invest the time to try and further define and protect rights that others may simply take for granted.

You may or may not be one of those folks that take the 2a for granted. You shouldn't. Because if it weren't for some of those folks that you opine might not have "much of a life," you would quite possibly no longer have that right at all.

Why do I buy, keep, & shoot guns?

1. I can & I like to
2. I enjoy shooting them: it teaches me focus & discipline. And its great stress relief.
3. Hunting
4. Protection

Actually, if you go to this thread, it very much encompasses why THR posters own guns:

And, as for the above bolded part, I think I know what you mean, but guns are not toys and if you treat them as such, you really should not own them. JMHO.

Is this post serious? If yes, I'm not sure what the point is, although I am happy to hear the poster decided not to shoot his neighbors.

"If the second amendment, pro or con, is a big part of your life I wonder if you have much of a life."

The fact that this thread has stayed civil after this opener is a tribute to THR:)

Being a Proponent of the Second Amendment is a HUGE part of my life. I also have a very happy marriage, 3 beautiful daughters, a full time job that pays well enough to support my gun habit and a church calling that I spend several hours each week fulfilling. Nearly all of my lifelong friends are shooting buddies and are actively pro Second Amendment. I don't know one of them who doesn't have anything less than a very happy home/social life.

You have to seek out the things in life that you are passionate about. They are rarely going to find you on their own. On that same note, there are many things people spend money and time on that I will never understand... I don't think less of them for it though.

it's generally criminals who own guns who wave them around and stick them in people's faces, not legal gun owners. guns are weapons, their purpose is to kill, though they are fun to practice with. are you implying people who care about the 2nd amendment don't have a life? this post seems like more of a rant than a topic for discussion

While I respect your right to purchase and have guns, I think many members of this site just might find the above quoted statements of yours, disheartening and somewhat offensive.

A lot of pro 2nd amendment individuals spend a great deal of their personal time fighting for and advancing the rights we enjoy under the 2nd amendment. If it wasn't for their staunch support and valuable time spent advocating for our rights, many of the firearm freedoms we enjoy today would not be possible. In short these men and women have a life and we are all better for their sacrifices.

Secondly, for whatever legal reason you purchase guns, even if it's just because you find them "cute" that's ok and, your legal right. That being said, some people find guns cute but I don't think anyone on this forum is going to support your contention that guns are "toys".

As an attorney and advocate of the second amendment, the last thing I would ever do is refer to a firearm as a toy. I would advise any client that referring to firearms as toys does not demonstrate sound judgment because it implies that you have little if any regard for the serious nature of firearm ownership and the serious responsibilities that come with ownership.

There are some people that come on forums such as this forum and make statements for the sole purpose of creating conflict and arguments; this type of activity is known as trolling. I would hope that this is not your intent.

I guess I'm fortunate...I do both  What a great country!

Exactly on point! Let's all do what we can to ensure they are preserved going forward.
