I've always known that I'm going to marry the best woman in the world, but today she confirmed it.

I found out the the Army is going to take me off the temporary medical retirement list and cut me loose, with a hefty severance paycheck. So, I figured out how much I owe on credit cards, loans, my truck, and then figured out what my rent and basic utilities will be until we get married. After figuring this out, I realized I'm going to be left with about $5k in just over a month. Being the THR-worthy gun-nut that I am, I started figuring what gun(s) I'm going to buy.

I told my fiance that I'm either going to buy an AR or set up a good .308 bolt gun with glass and all the bells and whistles. What did she say? Did she ask what I was planning to buy her? NO!!! All she said was "Whatever you buy, I want to shoot it too."

I'm telling ya, it don't get no better than that! You gotta love a woman like her.

Frank

P.S. No guys, she doesn't have any sisters.

A wife who appreciates firearms...now that's definitely good news.

Every time my wife says, "Let's go to the gun range," she gets better looking.

My fiancee surprised me one day when she said, "Honey, I really want you to get a 1911." :D I was happy to grant that request.

I hear ya Vet....my wife is pretty much the same way.....at her insistence I have purchased an AR-15, a Sig P220, Sig P232, another SKS and will shortly be adding another Kahr to the gun garage. Her only rule is that she gets to carry the 232 and shoot the others when I hit the range.
Gotta love it.

Let the voice of past wisdom speak.

Make sure you buy it and any other guns stuff you can before the wedding. Think outside the box too. Gunsafe? Range membership?

It's cynical to say, but women can butter you up all the way to the altar. Then after the honeymoon, things start to change.

If she's still into guns after the wedding, then you've got a real, real, real, keeper.

Can't get my wife to the range, but she does buy me neat stuff...

.357 Vaquero
1911-A1 Champion Springy
50th year Single-Six
Traditions Brand repro of 1851 Navy Colt
Lyman Flinty Trade Rifle in .50

man but just think of the brownie points if you bought her a little something of her own:D

Frank ...... looks like you are landing on both feet here!:) Gotta be good.

Cherish this lady as I am sure you will .. and may your days to come at the range be filled with love, recoil and the whiff of burned powder ..... and then Hoppes#9 of course!

Seems too like perhaps any ''lil vets'' later will get excellent schooling in firearms!:)

Good find. I'm sure she'll be a good keep. If not keep her anyways and love her always.

Jon got lucky since I was into guns before we even met. Now that is the way to find a woman. Now if I can keep him interested in guns even after we get married.

Also 5K isn't bad; I haven't even hit 1K. I still have to pay for the wedding. :uhoh:

Oh well that's why I'm not buying any guns now and not in school so I don't have a school bill. Good job in taking care of your debts before you get married. It will be a blessing. Hope it works out for you.

Like said before give us pics!!!!!!!

While I really don't want to burst your bubble, I am gonna play Dad for a minute. If 'twere me, I'd spend $1500 or so on guns and bank the rest for a rainy day. Never know when you'll need that cash. Now, that is considering you don't already have a nice-sized nest egg put away. If you do, buy away.

Vet, you've got a definite keeper. Use whatever's left over for a trip to Reno to acquire the required paperwork. (I prefer Reno to Vegas because it's not nearly so obnoxious, and there's pretty mountains nearby)

My wife was actually happy when my C&R arrived yesterday...because now I can get that His & Hers set of SKS's from AIM. Oh, yeah, I LOVE my wife. :D

Congrats on having an understanding and wonderful fiance. My wife at least wants guns in the house. Well, she wanted "gun" in the house. She tolerates the fact that I turned that word plural. :D

After meeting your Fiance..... you better get an AR for her to shoot as well. So she cant complain about holding it all day for ya ;)

Good catch

Guys, I've definitly got nothing to worry about here. She's quite a gun-nut herself, as members of the TN Mafia will attest. Heck the night we met, there was an empty 9mm ammo box or two on the floor of my car from a trip to the range that morning. She saw it and dismissed it as a normal thing to have in ones' car. Gotta love that her dad is a gun nut and taught her early.

As for putting away a nest egg, got that covered. About $4k of that is getting put away. The money for a house down payment is taken care of already. Her folks are letting us live rent and utility-bill free in their 'future-retirement-home' for a year after we're married. Actually, we get to live there as long as we want, just the first year will be bill free. The only stipulation is we have to put what we'd spend on rent towards a house down-payment. Also, neither one of us will have a car payment, I've got a '98 Ranger and she's got a '02 BMW 325Ci that was bought for cash. Luckily for me, her folks are as wonderful as she is, and I love them like they were my own, and they feel the same way.

I already plan to buy her a Beretta 3032 Tomcat, but don't tell her. She likes them a lot, and the tip-up barrel makes it easier for her than a standard automatic or a heavy DA revolver.

BTW, if I opt to get a bolt-gun, I'm leaning towards a Remington 700 ADL, chambered in either .308 or .30-06 with a Harris Bipod and a Simmons 44 MAG scope mounted on see-thru, high-rise rings and Weaver Mounts. Any opinions?

dont guess you ever got to shoot rodney's 700adl in 7mm mag with a monty stock harris bipod and redfield scope? nice shooter, definatly put the fear in ya for the kick tho.

Kevin,

Yeah, I did shoot it actually. I didn't realize that's what he had out there that day. Knowing that, I'm more inclined to go with a 700 ADL. His was a nice shooter.

yea real flat since it was a 7. i loved the look of his with the stainless everything and the nice wood monty carlo stock. only bad thing was you couldnt shoot it but maybe 10 times in a week or your shoulder really would really start to tingle.

consindering you have an ak....and problay too many years of playing with the ar/m gun....might be nice to have a "sniper" eh

My opinion is worth exactly what you’d pay for it, but here goes.

CALIBER: The .308 is a fine chambering. So is 7mm Rem Mag, 30-06, etc.

ACTION: The 700 action is a fine platform.

ADL VERSION: If you like the wood stock of the standard ADL or BDL, that’s your choice. Anything synthetic is my preference from a durability standpoint.

SCOPE: Simmons makes affordable, middle-of-the-road scopes. The 44 Mag scope lets in a lot of light, but it does so to compensate for mediocre-at-best optical clarity. (FYI I have a 4-16x40, and it’s just “OKâ€.) I like the Bausch and Lomb Elite 4000's a lot, and they're a heck of a scope for the $$.

RINGS: See-through rings are definitely not my cup of tea.

If you’re going to scope a hunting (or “sniperâ€, you didn’t mention its intended purpose) rifle, I feel that it’s better to pay for excellent glass, and count on it to perform. YMMV.

These rings, along with a scope with a 44mm objective, will place the scope really high off the receiver. In order to get the scope objective high enough to allow for the see throughs to even be used, you need to raise the scope to the point where your “cheek weld†will be turned into a “chin weld.â€

Nutshell, I think that seethroughs look cheesy. (For fun, ask someone who has the see-throughs if they've ever really used them once they have a scope.)

But, if you prefer to wear suspenders and a belt, this setup might work just fine.

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were hanging out at Barnes and Noble and I was checking out the 1911 magazine that's out right now. I was showing her the pictures of the Larry Vickers and Heinie guns, etc. I told her that some day I was going to have one built for myself exactly how I want it(well, not a Vickers or Heinie) and she asked me how much it would cost. I said about $2000 or so. Her reply? "That's not that much. You might just get that for Christmas"

:D

and she does have a sister
