Why is this a common mistake?

Hollywood completely distorts reality, especially when it comes to guns.

I took a girlfriend to shoot for her first time recently and she couldn't stop talking about how different it is from the movies.

No kidding. I just started shooting again after going 8 years not being around guns. The .38 I brought seems to kick more then I remembered. Shooting a .22 handgun in each hand may be easy, but anything more powerful...

I took me a while to learn to distrust other people's hearsay and really investigate things. I think I was about 18.

That is a heck of a lot younger than most people "get it," if they ever do.

I bought my first one in Texas in 1965 because I had seen one in a movie, a little Colt .25 auto. No ID, no questions, I was tall and I had money.

By the time I came home in '68, the Gun Control Act had happened and I had to wait a while before I could buy another one. I next bought an Arminius Titan Tiger in .38 Spl. because it was the only one I could afford at $47.95. It was worth at least half that!

It took me two more years to start buying smart, that is good quality weapons.

I guess everyone has to learn a different way.

I'm really glad that these forums exist and we can sometimes help to advise rookies before thay make mistakes.
