Am I mistaken or are there no revolvers in .40S&W out there?
I would think that this would be a good round in a short barrel snub.

Always liked the SP101 in 9mm, the full moon clips worked well as mini speed loaders.

The 646 was only made for two short short runs, one of 400 PC guns in 1999 or 2000 and one of 300 non-PC guns in 2003. They're great shooting guns and easy to carry, the barrel is just under 4" and they're a bit lighter than a standard L-frame thanks to a titanium cylinder. You'll find them around but they're usually priced in the $800-$1000+ range these days.

S&W is currently making the 310 Night Guard with a 2 1/2" barrel, it'll shoot 10mm and .40.

It seems like the .40 caliber round would require a larger frame size than the .35 cal holes in most compact revolvers. If you're going to have a large-framed revolver with .40" holes in the cylinder, you might as well shoot 10mm or .41 magnum.

I note that when I shoot 40 in my 610 I get buildup of shaved bullet metal at the leade of the chamber for the 10mm round. I don't allow 40 in my 610 any more because of that.

Don't see why when you've got [Strike].44 magnum[/Strike] .357 Magnum...

Now that's my take on it. The two being ballistic twins, and the .357 having a wider range of bullet weights available, I see no reason for a 10mm revolver, let alone the .40.

I'm a 10mm fanatic, but the logic behind this one eludes me.

It would be cool to have more options for revolvers but most things are produced to make money, so the demand has to be there.

I think a 5 shot .40/10mm in a K frame size revolver would be vary desirable.

Photo of my S&W 646 in .40S&W --- built on the K frame and it is almost 1/3 size less then my S&W 610 in 10mm

Don't see why when you've got .44 magnum...

I have S&Ws in .44mag ---- with EITHER my 646 or 610 , I can shoot 2 or 3 rounds in the same amout of time it takes to fire and recover from ONE round of full power .44mag. ---- EITHER the .40 or 10MM is MORE then deadly on ANY two legged threat.

DIFFERENT HAMMER for diferent work --- who uses a 30lb sledgehammer for frameing ??

Ruger did a short run of Blackhawks in 38-40 with a 40 S&W cylinder.

Both the S&W 646 and 610 are great revolvers. I find the 646 a pain to shoot with full power loads but pleasant with my mild reloads.

Thanks for the info , looks like S&W answered my question with the
Smith & Wesson Model 310. As a bonus I can go to a 10mm
or use .40s.

Anybody with real world experience with htis gun?

I have a ruger old model Vaquero in 38-40 which also has a .40 S&W cylinder as well as a 10mm cylinder. Shoots very well
