I have been on the THR now for a just over a year. It has been an amazing educational tool. I have learned so much from all of the members here. Lately I have been noticing a trend that I think is too bad. It seems like less and less people are including any information about themselves in their THR Profile. Many times we will have people discussing things that happen in their neck of the woods, or run-ins they have had will different people in their hometown. The problem is we don’t have any idea where they live or what area they are talking about. This is well illustrated in the thread that is running right now concerning helping people on the side of the road. Many people will say they are not willing to help people in their area, but we have no idea where that area is??

I encourage everyone here to fill out all of the information available in your THR Profile. It will help us all to get to know each other better, and help us to learn more from posted threads and comments. Realistically what could possible happen because you say you are from NW WI, or whatever you locale is?? I think THR will be a better place to interact as more people start to fill out all their profile.

I agree. I'm sure the omission of info is because we all know Agent Schmuckatelli is watching and recording everything you say. So when the black helicopters descend on your home don't act surprised. I think your profile is a good way to indentify with other THR members who share common interests. Matter of fact, I'm going to update mine right now.
 And if your reading this Mr. Schmuckatelli...............................You can SUCK MY FLASH SUPPRESSOR !!!!!:D

(Mr. Schmuckatelli, please do not take my comments seriously, I am merely poking fun at the difficulty of your position. Also, I do not have a flash suppressor, it's a muzzle break.)

errr ummm I mean "brake" ;)

If you post on any forum then Agent Schmuckatelli has your IP address ... so not putting any information in your profile is like buying something mailorder, paying with a check and refusing to tell the customer service rep your full name (in other words he has it already whether you tell him or not).

I can understand not using your real name (of course more people on the Net know me as Zundfolge then as Mike) but putting down where you live in, your age and most of the other info in your profile, it won't hurt you.

Oh, and to you guys who insist on putting NOSPAM in your email addresses ... you do realise that email harvesting programs easily filter out the NOSPAM part and get your email address anyway :neener:

The little voices in my head become BIG VOICES if I let people know where I live. (I will tell you but only if you promise not to tell anyone. I actually live in OMG...the PAIN I'M sorry.....Won't do it again NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I guess it is just not worth it.

Agent Schmuckatelli is nothing compared to the blue helmeted alien bear Communist paratroopers....

I've been through so many FBI backround checks CHL, C&R, adoptive parent, had to get one to volunteer at my kids school.

I'm not worried about putting my basic info on a message board.

Schmuckatellie has already done a colonoscopy I'm not shy anymore.

Anyway not much information in my profile is needed; everyone sees me every time they open up a magazine and see a Blackhawk Industries ad.

El Tejon, I am low speed high drag, like a 230gr .45 JHP.

I have always thought that it is too bad also. You can really get a feel for a person by looking at their profile, if it is filled out.

I'm like jsalcedo, except I've only been through one .gov background check for my application to federal prisons. I have nothing to hide.

Yeah, maybe not shy - but .... jsalcedo .... it could explain that strange walk ya have!!:D

Sorry ---- brain in stoopid mode!:p

True tho .... there is actually little one can hide these days ... more is the pity but .... just about anywhere you may care to dig ... there'll some info on you. Anonimity is all but a myth!

It is interesting to be able to know at least an approx location for people ... fills in some gaps re local politics, laws etc. Plus too at times - interesting to know what a guy does for work and leisure (apart from shooting!!.

Yeah, pretty much every time I get on this board I read a thread and check to see where a guy is located and he has either nothing or something that he thinks is cute in the location section. As was mentioned, I have no idea why. Some people put a state and no city or town which is better than nothing.
I met one of my best shooting buddies on The Firing Line. He gets on there and makes a post that he is thinking about buying a .44 Mag. Can't decide if he wants a single or double action etc. He was too cool to fill in the location box also, even through his location was part of his on-line name  Seeing that he was from the same town as I was, I offered to let him try out any one of my four .44 Mags. Of course I would have never offered had I not known that he lived right here. We have now been shooting together for 3-4 or so years. We have hunted together. We went together on a bunch of bullet casting gear that we keep at his garage.................. All just because I had a general idea of where he lived.

You talkin about me? You talkin to me??

Maybe I'm paranoid!!! ;)

Hahha, Naw. I was probably in a hurry when I registered and besaides I get around a lot. I can count the states I haven't been in on one hand. Lived in many of them. Travel a lot. I avoid big cities like the plague but other than that I don't change how I interact with people dependant on location.

Alright, you talked me into it. Hope you're happy! :D

updated. I always thought we could use hometown forums were specific state get together's and issues could be discussed however the mods didn't agree LOL.
