SEATTLE (AP) — Police said a man accidentally shot himself in the testicles at a Lynnwood department store. Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said the man was carrying his handgun in his waistband and it accidentally went off about noon Sunday.

She said he was wounded in the testicles and also in his leg and foot. No one else was hurt.

The man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but there was no immediate word on his condition.

The gun wasn't looking where it was going, it was balancing some hot coffee and talking to it's friend about the great parking spot they just got.... and it's toe caught a floormat.

Back in college a good friend was carrying a cheapie .22 derringer-type pistol in his pocket. As luck would have it he had a hole in that pocket; the gun started to slide through it so my friend grabbed for it. Apparently the hammer caught on the fabric and the gun went off, shooting him in the leg.

It happens.

Another 'Glock' tale?

'Mexican Carry', like so much else in Life...is no better than who is doing it.

Poor fellow...I am sure the Muzzle Blast did as much or more harm to immediate tissues, than the Bullet did.

I'd opine that there are a lot of folks out there carrying without a holster. Their guns are either tucked in their pants or bouncing around in their pockets. Personally, if I'm going to undertake any alterations to that part of my anatomy I'd prefer that it been done by an MD, while I'm under anesthesia.

Thunderwear

Hi guys
Forget carrying a gun in your shorts. Check out Thunderwear on
http://www.thunderwearholsters.com/
Its a great way to carry inconspicously. You can wear it under a bathing suit and you will not see the gun. just don,t go swimming.:) They have different sizes and holds a gun and a spare mag. I carry a .40 S & W VE with 4" barrel in a medium size. You will notice it when you sit down but very comfortable. A must have for concealed carry especially in the summer.

FMJ, that was

I might mention that this is not proper "Mexican Carry." This is holsterless carry, usually with a belt, either on the strong side hip or crossdraw, without the gun pointed at your crotch. It comes from Mexican vaqueros (cowboys), who are colorful and romantic figures.

Rule #1 Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. I guess if you forget that one the rest don't really matter now do they.

On the plus side if the store had good security camers he may win ten grand on funniest home videos, I mean this is way better (or worse) than getting hit in the sack by a todler with a plastic bat.

Man Accidentally Shoots Self In Testicles

Don't often hear folks talk of why not to use a cross-draw holster: you can shoot your own arm while drawing. I also don't hear many folks speak out against up-front IWB carry...it ain't 'cuz you'll shot your eye out! Well, this article goes a very long way to explaining it.

Anyone care to admit they carry in such a fashion?

A front pocket can also have the muzzle pointing in a similar direction, for those who may toss a pocket gun into a pocket.

Of course the IWB 3-4 o'clock position (or 8-9 for lefthanded shooters) that also is popular can result in shooting either the buttock or the hip.
Such a shot in the hip could certainly result in serious permanent disability, yet the muzzle of the firearm sits around that location and typically sweeps that area while drawing.

Center of the back carry can result in spinal injuries, even non shooting related. Landing on a solid object over the spine poses serious risk. Just slipping and falling can often lead to serious injuries as a result of such carry.

Thigh holsters often have the firearm pointing downwards into the leg all the time, and others just while drawing. Which could easily lead to a round discharged into a knee or femoral artery. Which could lead to lifelong disability (or bleeding to death).

Cross draw from a shoulder holster sweeps your own arm, and typically nearly 180 degrees or more of the room you are in. Putting more people in danger.

Most carry positions have significant associated risks.

Okay, okay, the proper term is "messican" carry. Geez, get it right.

The dude got hit by a mini crotch-rocket. Call it a learning experience. Hopefully.

And, why did they need to find a female store rep to describe it? Did she lose the toss?

It doesn't say what firearm he was carring, but I betcha it was a 1911 carried " Pistolero" style, cocked and locked, exceped it came unlocked and !!!!:)

Ha!

No one else needed to be hurt.

He was hurt enough for at least 10 or 15 people.
