Please help out us Wisconsinites.

Gov. Doink and Mark Green had a debate tonight on taxes and jobs.

To me, Green was clearly the winner. About all that Doink could think of to say was that Green voted for the Federal Budget with it's major deficit. :neener:

Doink even admitted that he 'bonded' (I consider this stealing) 1 BILLION from the transportation funds in order to 'balance' his budget this year. I didn't hear it, but if I remember correctly, the last budget he took the money from the tobacco settlement to 'balance' his budget. He's got a pattern going here.

Please hit this poll at Channel 3. Right now it's the 2nd item in the headlines, but it will prob. float down the to 'regular' headlines/links in a day or two. I've also submitted my comments to the Talkback moderator under, guess what, artjs

sorry for the edit..... I tried to correct the spelling of Doink, dang, there it goes again , but my fingers just CAN'T DO IT.

Art, I'm not so sure that Doyle won, or that Green won.

For policy wonks, I think Doyle won. He is able to point to one program after another that he's been involved with.

For personality, Green won. He very effectively introduced himself, remained respectful of Doyle, and kept hammering home a consistent message.

For those who were looking for substance, though, I think Green came up short. By this time, his campaign should know what topics Doyle will hit him on, and have ready answers. Green should have seized on the bond issue, and hammered it home. Instead, he let it pass.

Fortunately (or not), very few voters watch these debates. So, the real test will be in the advertising: TV, radio, and newspaper. That means that Green is going to have to raise even more cash.

There's just 53 days until the election. I sure hope that Green's people get much more into the fight.

I wonder, though, just when Doyle's people will bring up the topic of "hidden weapons."

Maybe Doyle's campaign will hand off that task to the outside groups, so that he can still claim to be for the rights of hunters and sportsmen.

One point I should have mentioned in my previous post.

Green kept referring to WI as what all of us here in the state call "tax hell" (Green didn't use that term, but it was implied).

Doyle kept trying to deflect that point by saying that property tax rates have gone down under his administration. Yes, they have. But assessments have gone up. That's the same as a property tax increase.

I hate Jim Doyle. I honestly do. There are very, very few people in this world that I hate, but he is one of them.

His face looks like the southern end of a poorly-tended horse. He has all of the sincerity of Bill Clinton, but none of the charm.

But the real tragedy is that he has for four years prevented honest citizens from being able to legally have the means with which to defend themselves. Every year, some 12,000 WI citizens are victims of murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery, assault, and other violent crimes.

For Jim Doyle, those are just numbers.

I taped tonight's debate, and watched it for a second time.

If I were an odds-maker, I'd say it was a draw.

And that scares the heck out of me.
