I've done a search for threads on security cameras, but didn't find the info I was looking for specifically.

I am looking for a 3 camera security system I can monitor on my computer (Mac) and I would love to be able to monitor it on my iPhone as well, though that is not a requirement. Two of the cameras will be indoors, both well lit areas. The third would be outside overlooking my parking lot, which is lit. But could use some help from the camera.

I do not have much money to spend and camera at the front and back doors are priority one. I am looking to spend no more than $100 per camera. Now I don't know if that is obscene or not, but its what I've got to work with.

Suggestions?

I got one of these when I was looking for a security camera on the cheap. I've had it about a year and a half with no problems, and it can be viewed through the browser on my iPhone or using IE, Firefox, Chrome, etc.

It came with software that can record constantly, on schedule, or on motion detection. I don't know if that software was Mac-compatible.

Here's another vote for the Foscam. Make sure you get the latest model:

They do an adequate job with recording & has pan capabilities. Comes with basic recording software. Resolution is acceptable. It is on par with the camera that comes with the ADT basic video system. These cameras have built motion sensor, mic, & infrared but no zoom.

If you upgrade the software to something more commercial, you may want to think about FTP'ing the recordings or captures off site on a predetermined basis (say every 5 minutes). The panning capability is very useful should something go bump in the night. Oh, yes - they can stream to a iPhone or 'droid.

Overall I'd give these cameras a 8 on a 10 scale.

I use a night owl system. With my system it records a year, BUT it will only record if it senses movement. You can set the sensitivity. It has night vision and I can view it from my iPhone. The system is self contained. One dvr and 4 cameras is kinda all you need. The cameras are hardwired and come with like 60' of cord. You can buy better cameras that can pan and zoom. Pretty cool check it out.

PC only, but maybe this will give you motivation to leave the trendy and go to the useful.
All MAC computers since about the last 5 or 6 years, have been intel based, and will run windows, linux etc. Right out of the box.

I understand that intel based macs will run windows/Linux. But I've never owned a windows based machine and I prefer to keep it that way.

FrontPoint will also do video integration, it's a little pricey but for a whole security solution it's rather nice. Full alarm, video & event access from any web, iphone or android phone.

I personally don't have one but a friend has something like you discuss from Radio Shack that he monitors his home and property over the internet and iphone. Can't be too expensive from that source. T-Mobile has a system we tried in Moonshine investigations-tail cam like units that were accessible via cellphone but their coverage was too sparce for our needs.
