I had a 659 many years back. It was a good, solidly-built performer, and handsome to boot. Never really learned to shoot it that well, though, as all my formal training had been with sixguns. I bought it intending to carry it as a duty sidearm when my agency finally offered that option. Before I got around to getting the training, however, I switched agencies, and carried my new employer's issue weapon.

Later, during some troubled times, I sold the 659 to pay some bills. That hurt some.

I had a 5904. My first gun ever. Wish I had never sold it because it was the first and because it was a good gun to start with.

I've found the appeal to these in the last couple years and started collecting them.

My only complaints are they have that darn mag disconnect feature which I really don't care for, and the safety works in the opposite direction... other than that they are wonderful.

I've grown fond of the third generation S&Ws, at least in 9mm. They're reasonably accurate, robust, and omnivorous when it comes to ammo. The magazine disconnect is a non-issue for me. I certainly understand why police like the feature, but I'm no cop. The guns can be found at very attractive prices when compared to other metal guns.
Yes, I'm aware that they don't make them any more, so parts will eventually become an issue. Eventually can be a very long time, though. I'm 62. My oldest 3rd gen is around 20, the newest not yet 10. Guess who's going to last longer. My 25 year old nephew will have, if he wants one, a gun that will last most of his life.
Mine have become my favorite carry guns. I have a CS9 for summer carry, a 908S for fall and spring, and a 6906 if we ever have any winter.

I wasn't all that impressed with the accuracy of my 3913 until I tried 147gr loads in it. I was shooting with some friends and had yet to shoot it with its new 10-8 rear sight. I drew down on a line of beer bottles at about 50 yards not expecting to hit them. My first shot blew the top off the bottle, the second shot the bottom of the bottle off, and my third hit the next bottle knocking it and another bottle off. I figured I better just stop shooting there as it wasn't getting any better than that. I've found my Smiths are brilliant with the heavier bullets.
