Well just a few weeks ago I bought my first gun, a S&W SIGMA 9mm . Its a great gun even though many people say the trigger sucks.

Over the weekend I took my wife to the range & they let her use a .22 & she liked it & then today I took her back to shoot my SIGMA & she loved it so im gonna pass it on to her.

My question is what do you guys think about the Springfield Armory XD guns ??
Im thinking about buying a .40cal or a .45 GAP .

What is your take on these 2 guns ???

The XD guns are nice. As far as the .40 S&W vs. .45 GAP debate, I'm staying away from .45 GAP for the time being.

The .40 S&W is tried and true. I'm not saying the .45 GAP won't be but it's not in my interest to find out first hand. :neener:

I'd recommend the 9mm - cheap practice ammo and good for defense with proper ammo.

If you're sure you want a larger caliber, I'd go for the .40 over the .45 GAP (and the .45 ACP over either, but you'd need a different pistol for that).

I like 1911's and prancing ponies.

For my money the flying ashtray can't be beat for SD. I want something that will knock a guy on his butt and then stop right there. And if ya wanna talk tried and true ...

XD's

Being a devoted 1911 fan I am kind of surprised to find myself really liking the XD. I helped a friend decide on the "perfect" first pistol for him & his wife- XD-9 Service model, and in the process became so impressed that I got one myself. Would highly recommend the Bitone (SS slide) because the standard finish hasn't proved too durable. Also, the 9mm has been more reliable than the .40 in XD's. So far my friend had 250 trouble free rounds of various mostly FMJ thru his and I have 150 also trouble free rounds thru mine. The triggers aren't bad and the accuracy is quite good. :)

Had an XD 9mm Tactical that was an extremely accureate pistol even with own generic reloads. The trigger is way better than a std. Glock and so is the grip and it has "real" mags. It's a very food pistol for the money.

If she likes the Sigma she's gonna love the XD tho! :what:

I have a Glock 37 and I find the GAP to be very accurate and completely reliable. I also have an XD-9 (stainless). I don't dislike it enough to get rid of it, but it rarely leaves the safe. I confident that an XD-45 will not have a home with me. I don't really know why it hasn't caught on with me, my XD-9 is accurate and reliable with factory ammo (far as I can tell). I don't, however, care for any type of porting on carry/service guns. I have a Glock 32C that will have you seeing spots if you fire it in low light. Seems the muzzle blast is worst also (kept the 32C, but bought a regular 32 barrel for it).

So in otherwords, Go with the XD 40.

Im not worried about pricy ammo. Just want something reliable & fun for the range but better than my SIGMA.

Besides, i might get the 45 down the road just for kicks.
As for the wife. She wont go to the range without me & she likes the SIGMA over the WALTHER 22 she trained with. So the SIGMA makes her happy.

1911 45 or xd-40

I have both, I will always have a 1911 great classic weapon

bought an xd-40 about 3 weeks ago

you can buy a 9mm barrel for the xd if you want to shoot on the cheap, you can not, however buy a 40 sw barrel for the xd9 so buy the 40!

I dont have a dislike yet in fact it the more I shoot it the more I like it

and........

xd-40 4" service black on black
3 High cap mags
1 xd gear paddel holster

all under $440.00 brand new I dont think you can beat it!!!!

it is a promo pkg I think...

I dont think I can name a place on this board if you want to pm me i'll get you the name of the place in Iowa
