Love mine in .357, 3". Lightened the spring a little with a Wolff spring, did a little gentle rubbing like '76 Shovel above and a lot of pulling the trigger and I love the trigger. I tend to bring it to the range almost every time I go, and generally load mild .357 loads with 158 grain bullets. I put a tritium front sight on mine not long ago, which was very easy to install. Wouldn't turn up my nose at the 9mm, especially if one doesn't intend to reload for it as the selection of ammo is pretty good and very economical for lots of practice and shooting fun.

Yeah she's been shooting 9mm for a long time so we decided to stay with it. We took it out the day she got it, she needs to get use to the heavy trigger (or modify it) but she grins from ear to ear everytime I mention this gun.

Just curious, did she try .327 Federal Magnum?

I think people who have those really enjoy practicing with the lower-powered cartridges that the gun can shoot, like .32 H&R

They have so many models for .327 now, but I don't think they have it in 2.25" barrel - maybe that form factor is a consideration for you guys, I don't know...

Did she even try one?

She shot a couple different calibers but was stuck on the 9mm. I tried to talk her into something in the .38 range but she wasn't having it. She loves it so far, she's been to the range a few times already and is getting comfortable with it.

Ya, there are some people out there, for whatever reason just like 9mm revolvers.

I don't understand it myself. :D

I have one as well in .38/.357 and like a couple others have said, a Wolff spring kit makes a world of difference. You don't have to change both springs, just the trigger the next level lighter. There are plenty of vides to show you how. If I can do it anyone can. I added Hogue grips and can shoot this gun way way better than the S&W airweight I used to own.

I really love the 929. I love shooting it. It has almost everything I've ever wanted in a 9mm revolver, it has a 9mm sized cylinder instead of the 38 spl or 357 sized cylinder, adjustable sights and a long barrel. If the frame window was sized for the 9mm length cylinder, it would be perfect. I'd been waiting for it for all my life. It is accurate and the trigger is nice right out of the box. I have so much fun punching paper with this thing, I can't think of anything I enjoy more. I created a five-shot group from 10 yards one time that looked like a 4-leaf clover, all the holes were touching with one shot right through the bull and touching the other 4 holes. I was just standing in my shooting booth giggling and giggling.

The 986 with the 2.5" barrel fits a special niche I think. It is for people who want a heavy snub nose chambered in 9mm. For some people, they want a smaller form-factor revolver but they don't want the recoil and they don't mind the weight.

The Charter Arms PITBULL with a 2.2" barrel weighs 22 ounces, the Ruger SP101 with a 2.25" barrel weighs 25 ounces but the S&W 986 with the 2.5" barrel weighs a whopping 31.7 ounces. I wanted to get the 986 but I came across a deal for the LCR in 9mm that I couldn't pass up and now the Ruger SP101 is chambered in 9mm again, and Ruger has just come out with their 9mm carbine... You know how it is. It may be a long long time before I get to purchase a 986.

I also bought one for the wife in 357 magnum loaded with 38+P she loves it .. I bought a wolf spring kit and after mkt grips . As for the hammer not been a problem for her , buy a hammer with out the spur then you have a choice later . Just My 2 Cents worth ..
