I'm so proud of my wife. She took her CCW permit course yesterday and passed with flying colors. They had a discussion about the pros and cons of each type of potential carry gun. The class members got to experiment with a few types to see what they like best.

My wife, who had been dead set on a semi-auto came home and told me she wants a .38spl snub nosed with internal hammer. She likes that it doesn't toss brass as she finds that distracting, and she likes that she doesn't have to worry about the slide banging or catching on her hand. As far as I'm concerned those are issues that can be overcome with training, but hey, she knows what she wants and it's her call! I'm really proud and really happy. I can't really knock her decision. We just have different reasons for picking the same platform.

So some time in the next week we're going to go compare an LCR, 640, and 642/442. She doesn't want a bobbed hammer. She got talked into the whole "you can shoot it through a coat pocket" idea and she doesn't want a hammer getting snagged on cloth. She is willing to consider something like a 638 also.

Anything else you guys would recommend we look at?

In J frame snubbies I have always been partial to the Model 49/38 series with the concealed hammer. And while I have never tried shooting the gun through my coat pocket, on a few occasions have carried it that way while walking the dog late at night. The other guns you have listed are all great choices as well. Just a matter of checking them out to see which one she prefers.

Ruger LCR's are a good choice and something to consider, they are pretty lightweight in the .38 Spl.+P platform vs. the .357 Mag. frame (est.3-4 oz's heavier.)
The only thing will be practice, practice, practice a Double action only trigger pull can be challenging for some people and takes some getting used to... especially in a snub gun.

Good Luck. :)

(Sorry about the previous weird entries my computer has been doing goofy stuff ever since I got on this morning... time to Re-boot. :banghead: )

Yup!!! And I married a woman who definitely knows what she wants and is not afraid to say so!
As brnmw pointed out, the trigger pull can be tough to master but luckily we've got a good hoard of .38spl, and she's welcome to as much of it as she wants.

I think wheelguns outnumber bottom feeders in our home by 2-1 if not more, so there's no shortage of stuff for her to practice with!

Good deal. Mine will likely never get a carry permit, but she is coming around to at least exploring learning more.
Pick up some snap caps when you get the revolver. Then, she can get even more trigger-training.

Took me the past 6 years. But we live in CT and the day of the Sandy Hook shooting she came to me and said "It's time. I want to protect myself and I need to do this before they take away my ability to."

Be patient and your wife may come around the same way.
