from my understanding, gunfighters didnt fire their weapons all too often. they usualy made very little money (after you figure in the money spent on food, booze, loose women, and games of chance) and ammo wasnt cheap.

If you look into history books and journals you'll find quite a few of them had "regular" jobs. Sheriffs, bartenders, dealers in saloons, scouts for the Army, buffalo hunters, etc. They didn't make their living off of shooting people, and the ones that did usually found the fast way to getting themselves hung or shot.they usualy made very little money
