will a tracer ignite gasoline fumes?

your probably thinking what the heck??? but in all seriousness i just got attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets living in a pile of matress's. i originally piled them up to burn them and decided to do the environmentally responsible thing and take them to the landfill. while loading my truck i uncovered a huge nest and have decided burning them would not be all that bad of an evil in lue of getting stung a bunch more times. my plan is to soak the matress thats in my truck and back up to the pile let it flip off, then figure out a way to ignite it....

I see a new truck and one hysterically funny Youtube video in your future if you do it in that order.

1. Flip mattress off truck FIRST
2. Invite shooting buddies over for a marshmallow roast
3. Soak mattress, step back, press record, toss a match.
 
I would recommend shooting the tracer into the ground under the matresses though. It just flying through and landing in the next field may ignite the field and not the mattresses. If I had a dime for every grass fire I started with a tracer, I could buy atleast one can of Coke.

For safety's sake, I vote for a match.
 
Wait till it's dark then douse it with gasoline. There's no need to burn it. The Gas will kill them and then take it ti the dump. I just had to call 911 to pick up my Dad after he got into a nest bush hogging. They are not fun to deal with. I guess it would be more fun to burn it though. Just wait till after dark they kind of go dormant.
 
The possiblity of fumes building up in something like a mattress makes me want to get a lawn chair and a six pack then sit waaaay back and ... ya'll watch this now!

1971, I spent 6 weeks of my 6th grade laying in the hospital waiting for and recovering from skin grafts but you go ahead and do what you gotta do.

BTW, in case you'd like to invite LEOs to your place next Saturday night, tracers will ignite trash bags containing an oxy- acetylene mix too.

...or so I'm told.

the whole idea of the tracer is i'd be 200yds away sitting on the back porch, not in any position to get either stung or burned. it'd probably take 20 gallons to soak that whole nest and an aweful lot of climbing around on the matress's to do the deed, we are talking about all 30 matress's from the hunting cabin... it'd only take 1/2 gallon to make enough fumes to catch it on fire.
 
Use diesel and you can walk right up and light it with a match. Much safer than dealing with gasoline vapors.
 
success... fire is lit. and who sais they go dormant after dark, its a solid hour after sunset and when i backed up to it w/ the truck they were swarming the truck, i was smashing them w/ the windshield wipers.
 
Potassium permanganate (aka KMnO4, a purple powder available at Lowes or Home Depot) and brake fluid or glycerin. Pour a small pile of KMnO4 on the ground near the pile and when you're ready to run, drop a few drops of brake fluid or glycerin on top. It'll give you a decent 30 seconds or more before it bursts into flames.
