THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
Does anyone know if any companies are taking pre-orders for firearms with the expectation that the ban will sunset and we can have all the good bits?

So long as the rifle isn't delivered until after Sept. 13, would this be legal?

I highly doubt it. Especially if there is a deposit required, the case could be made that they were accepting money for an (at that time) illegal firearm.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they start running double-shifts on the order desk starting 12:01AM Sept 13th.

I think that the manufacturers of after market accessories for rifles are going to do really well after 9/14/2004. But that's just me.

Besides, who in their right mind would take orders NOW for now-illegal firearms and accessories.

We're getting ahead of ourselves.

But, have faith, Gentlemen and Ladies, five months to go and a few wake ups.

I'm not so concerned about being able to buy, but rather being concerned about buying at the REAL price.

The real price is whatever the market will bear. For a relatively short period of time the demand will be higher than normal and may outstrip the supply. The price will go up. That's how it works.

Most companies will sell you preban uppers right now if you want to buy one. You can buy all the various pieces to change postbans to prebans as well. If you really wanted to you could just go ahead and buy them. I wouldnt really recoment it but, really its up to you.

Do you really think the addition of a flashhider and a bayonet lug i going to have any effect on the price whatsoever after the ban?

Ok...let me clarify.

I believe that when the ban sunsets we will see the prices of standard capacity and other items that are affected stay at the levels they are at now (ie the price of post ban standard cap will be the price of pre-ban standard cap). The ony difference will be that you will have them readily available. Then 2-3 months down the road when everyone has had their fill of 15,16,17 round magainzes the price will then level out at what it should be, and that would be the prices you see in the CDDN catalog for LEO magazines.

C-yeager...the price will probably go up short term, but long term the prices will be very good. Anyone have an old catalog pre-94 with AR-15s and the like? What did they cost then? That is the price (plus a little inflation) that we can expect to pay early next year.

Assuming there were no such thing as inflation this would be true.

I wonder if business for current "post-ban, pre-ban-expiration" firearms and magazines is down?

I wouldn't be buying a "post-ban" Bushmaster, Colt, Armalite, etc. right now if I could get something closer to "the real thing" in five months. (Ditto for gelded post-ban magazines.)

I'm going to guess that its yes for those evil assault rifles, and no for magazines.

I'm going on a limb and guessing that the crowd that wants evil black guns are the same crowd that is a little more political savy and knows what is around the corner.

I think that a lot of people that are buying weapons right now are not aware that in a couple months they will probably be able to buy standard capacity magazines. I know that I picked up a month or so ago a couple of 10rd for my Steyr M9 since it only came with a single magazine. Eventually I may pick up a standard or two for it...but we'll see.

First of all, there is no need for companies like Bushmaster to "tool up" for the midnight switch over. All they have to do is start selling all the rifles they are making RIGHT NOW to the civilian public. The markings "for law enforcement only" will be meaningless after this Sept.

Secondly, if you really do want to buy an AR now and are worried about paying to switch over come Sept, check out Armalite. They are shipping their rilfes right now with flash suppressor coupons and will install it on your rifle for free, IIRC.

At least one major manufacturer (Bushmaster? Armalite?) is including a "free upgrade" coupon with "post-ban" items: once the ban expires, just send yours back to the factory and they'll add all the proper features.

Would and COULD the po-po do anything if you order all the parts for an evil AR-15 save the lower, if you don't own the lower reciever?
