What are the odds that the new CZ RAMI will be imported into the USA with the blessing of the BATF?

Does this little pistol have any chance at all of meeting the requirements?

Holy cats! Is that thing marked .40 S&W? Does it come in .45 or 9mm? Tell me EVERYTHING about this pistol! That is one sweet little blaster. I've been looking for a good excuse to buy a CZ and this may be it.

Of course, I should probably buy a CZ75 just to be sure I like CZ, right? I don't have a 9mm right now. Is this a serious firearm faux-pas? Will my wife buy this line of reasoning? :p

I'm blaming this whole 'I need a CZ' thing on you, Justin.

At the 2002 Shot Show, CZ had a non-functional sub-compact version of the CZ-40. Given it's appearance, it's quite possible that this is a product of that research.

I WISH it was a .40, but the stamp is too fuzzy for me to be sure. It does kinda look like ".32 S&W", but is that the same as .32acp? I thought that the .32 S&W was a 100+ year old revolver caliber that worked in the .32 magnum.

As far as the BATF, we'd need to know as many specs as possible before checking to see if there's any chance of seeing it over here.

Check out the Glock FAQ's for a great rundown of the BATF import points. I'll try and copy it here:

Characteristic---------------------------------- Points
Length: for each 1/4" over 6" ---------------1
Forged steel frame ----------------------------15
Forged HTS alloy frame -----------------------20
Unloaded weight w/mag (per oz.) ----------1
.22 short and .25 auto ------------------------0
.22 LR and 7.65mm to .380 auto ------------3
9mm parabellum and over -------------------10
Locked breech mechanism -------------------5
Loaded chamber indicator --------------------5
Grip safety ---------------------------------------3
Magazine safety --------------------------------5
Firing pin block or lock -------------------------10
External hammer --------------------------------2
Double action -----------------------------------10
Drift adjustable target sight ------------------5
Click adjustable target sight -----------------10
Target grips --------------------------------------5
Target trigger ------------------------------------2

To qualify for import a pistol must score 75 points.

I'm just going to guess from the picture here, and try to keep my estimates low.

Length - less than 6", so ------------------------------------------- 0
Forged steel frame (could be alloy, but I'm underestimating) 15
Unloaded weight 20 ounces -----------------------------------------20
caliber .32 ---------------------------------------------------------------3
Locked breech ----------------------------------------------------------5
Magazine safety (don't think that's a CZ feature)----------------0
Firing Pin block ----------------------------------------------------------10
External Hammer -------------------------------------------------------2
Double Action -----------------------------------------------------------10
Drift adjustable target sights ----------------------------------------5

TOTAL: ------------------------------------------------------------------ 70

So it would have to weigh more, or have an alloy frame but weigh the same, or be 9mm or above, or have a loaded chamber indicator to make it, according to my guesstimates.

Other opinions/adjustments certainly welcome :)

77 :D

That will make me SOOOOO mad though! :banghead:

I really wanted a super-small CCW in .40. Kahr is really the only thing in that size, but I prefer TDA. So after I found out the CS40 didn't fit my hand, and everything else was too fat... I bought ANOTHER K40!

And now this!

:banghead:

That's interesting that it takes CZ-75 mags... Must be wider than it looks.

I know the name is only a little thing, but why not just call it the CZ40 Compact?

Still, it doesn't look much larger than an MK40, and it holds 8 rounds...

If it's as reliable and affordable as the CZ75s then it will sell very well. Lots of folks are looking for a subcompact under $400 for licensed carry. This could the answer.

According to the article it will come in both 9mm and .40 - with capacity of 10 rounds and 9 rounds respectively. They would be much shortened CZ- 75 mags it they did use them.

Cool little gun though.

Sorry to break this to you guys...It probably wont happen.
According to the Head/Big boys at CZ the gun was designed as a concept gun...its to small to work with CZ's design and wont be produced until they get it to work.....even then its a very big chance. It was a project of a couple of CZ's engineers that looks absolutely vantastic but never got it to work.............
Id be first in line if they ever do make it a reality...........
Shoot well

They could at LEAST make it a little bigger and try again before giving up completely!

As big as CZ's are, just making it approximately the size of a Sig P239 would be "compact". Give it just enough grip for 3 normal fingers (including mag extension) and a 3" to 3.5" barrel...

It doesn't HAVE to be MK size to work... just K size!

Of course, I shouldn't wish TOO hard... If CZ did make a pistol that was comparable in size to the Kahr K40 but TDA and held 8 or 9 rounds... I'd sell mine tomorrow, at a loss of course, and my wife could  at me like she always does when I sell something.

Update from CZUSB

I emailed CZ in the Czech Republic earlier today, and I got this response:

"Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in firearms produced by our company.
CZ Rami is to be launched onto the market in the second half of this
year.
Concerning its availability in the USA could be best found by
contacting our USA subsidiary. The web site address with necessary
contacts
and much more is: www.cz-usa.com <http://www.cz-usa.com>

Yours sincerely,

Kudos to CZ for the quick response. You gotta love a company that answers emails that fast.

Gosh I just LOOOOOVE Contractors :)

"Nicolay" here speaks a little Czech...

The Rami pistol was "Like with another modernly offered product in the first instance developed of variant within 40 S&W, there to simplify modification within 9 mm Luger....."

So the Rami was designed as a .40, (like the H&K) and then modified to the 9mm.

"Weapon already well-tried... to put out within 9 mm Luger plus 40 S&W, clearly to begin with sake of americké shopper."

So it's well tested, and they made the .40 just for us :D

It looks like it's Decock-only, like the PCR. Also available in DAO with "smooth sides". The frame is aluminum alloy, also like the PCR. I don't think the mag drops free... "push-button safety-catch tray (mag) release".

Specs according to the site:

Length - 165mm - 6.49"
Height - 118mm - 4.64"
Width - 32mm - 1.25"
Weight - 24.32 (with empty mag) 28.32oz (with full mag)

It holds 10 rounds in 9mm, 8 rounds in .40. One thing I don't understand... There's something about a "double-breasted tray (mag) with single-breasted (something)." (Double stack mag with single stack feed?)

It shoots with "surprise strictness", showing a 25 meter spread (don't know how many rounds) of 4.3" for the .40, and 4.0 for the 9mm.

Since Nicolay gets paid a LOOOOT more than me, he didn't have a lot of time to stay. He and I also had some language difficulty of our own, and I don't think he's a "gun man" at all.

Actually it looks to have a normal CZ thumb safety, not a decocker.
I agree, but I'm going off what (I am told) the page says, not the pic of the prototype.

And as I mentioned, since he has no knowledge of guns, and doesn't speak english 100%, I had to try and identify his words and match them with terms familiar to me.

IIRC, what he said was something about the RAMI lever working the same as the PCR rather than the Colt Z-40 it resembled. I could be wrong.

It sounded like a new design with all the best from the CZ40, and PCR combined, rather than just a scaled down CZ40.

Ohhhh nice. I want one. And they'll probably be coming here! I'm envious.

I love CZ, I have a thing for small guns (though living in MD I can't carry) and I love 9mm. However, MD now has that infernal built-in lock law:cuss: and CZ won't be putting the locks on any of their guns. So I can look at pictures and when they come I can read your glowing reports when you guys start getting yours but unless/until I move I can't get one.:( :banghead:

WOOOHOOOOO!

Well it looks like I might just have to break down and get me a cute little .40. Man that thing sure looks good doesn't it.

We don't have CCL here in the Bevr dam. But that looks like just the thing I was looking for using to get into IDPA. Hope it is cockable and lockable.

WoW just looked at the pic again. Thanks Justin!

I want one now! ':cuss:' Why must we wait!

Thanks -bevr
