Will Giuliani consider the 2nd Amendment an individual right?

Why not?

He is a popular figure in general with the masses, has experience as NY Attorney General, and will be easily confirmed by Congress.

I think he will end up the Repub VP in 2008.

By the way, the "a little anti 2nd Amendment" comment was sarcastic.

I still pose the question to those who made a big deal out of Ashcroft's opinion of the second amendment as an individual right... what do you think will happen when Bush picks Giuliani?

Why would the Republican candidate in '08 put Giuliani on the ticket? What state is Giuliani going to help deliver? New York? Not likely. He may broaden the appeal of the ticket some, but I think he will alienate as many people as he attracts.

GWB wants someone more aligned with his views than Giuliani, GWB doesn't need any political capital that Giuliani might be able to provide. I don't think AG is in the cards for Rudy.

hahahahahahahahahaha....

Is Giuliani Anti-gun? :what:

whew that was a good one... That was like when someone asked me if the Pope was Catholic... Oh man, funny stuff.

whew... thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

1. "The broad principle that there is an individual right to bear arms is shared by many Americans, including myself. I'm of the view that you can't take a broad approach to other rights, such as First Amendment rights, and then interpret the Second Amendment so narrowly that it could fit in a thimble. But I'm also of the view that there are limits on those rights. Just as you can't falsely shout fire in a crowded movie theater, you can put restrictions on who can own guns and how, when, and where they may be possessed."

___ Sen. Charles Schumer

2. "While some have argued that the Second Amendment guarantees only a 'collective' right of the States to maintain militias, I believe the Amendment's plain meaning and original intent prove otherwise. Like the First and Fourth Amendments, the Second Amendment protects the rights of 'the people,' which the Supreme Court has noted is a term of art that should be interpreted consistently throughout the Bill of Rights. ... Of course, the individual rights view of the Second Amendment does not prohibit Congress from enacting laws restricting firearms ownership for compelling state interests ... just as the First Amendment does not prohibit [government from legislating against] shouting 'fire' in a crowded movie theater. "

___ Attorney General John Ashcroft

Ashcroft sounded a lot like Chucky to me.

Not that I am a big fan of Ashcroft, but both these statements are open to a great deal of interpretation. Both statements would allow some type of legislative control. I would have to say that Schumer's history has shown that he is for a great deal of control.

Well, Rudy might find a place in the new administration, but I sincerly hope it is not as A.G.
Anyone got any good ideas where he could serve that would help the Repubs carry N.Y. in the next election, but not work against the RKBA? :scrutiny:

Come on, think red States. Giuliani can't be in play. New York, what have you done for me lately besides give me Rep. Kuhl (R-NY) from the hinterland?

Giuliani's star did not rise nationally because he was a lawyer. He's an aging rock star...9/11 and all that. There is only one "star" in Washington. If Giuliani has a play, it will be later and grander. Let him at least run for Governor if he is still interested in politics and needs a pay check.

Look for Republican Congress critters who lost their jobs in the election or who did not seek reelection. That's where they got Ashcroft. Ousted Governors would be another one. Don't know if there were any. The party will find a spot for "good people", as long as they are remotely compatible with GW. The prime candidates are "available" and have homes in the DC area and don't want to leave.

Guiliani is only considered a right winger in New York City. Then again, Karl Marx is considered a right winger there. As far as gun rights go Rudy is as bad as they come. NO to RUDY!!!!!!!

Red Staters stay awake and don't let him near anything that would affect our gun rights.

My money says....
Even if he was offered the AG position(which he wont be anyway) in the Bush Admin., he wouldn't accept the job anyway.
I believe Guiliani wants to have a go at the presidency in 2008. My guess would be his campaign will center around bringing people together, relying heavily on his image from the 9/11 days. He will also pander to the liberals, and he could be successful given alot of his views. That may alienate some republicans, but if republicans fail to field a viable alternative, he may very well get the nomination.
Not a great situation for gun owners by any stretch of the imagination.
Frist/Craig 2008 anyone?
All specualtion,
John F.

Looks like Giuliani isn't going to be Attorney General.

Somebody named Gonzalez that no one outside of Texas has ever heard of may be getting the job.

Don't know much about him, but hopefully he will be better on RKBA than Rudy.
