About the best a guberner can do is stop or maybe slow down the madness.
The wackiness comes out of the legislature which is dominated by very stupid liberals who do nothing but what they are told by the few very smart (and very scary) liberals.
The most to hope for is that Arnold does a good audit and finds all kinds of stuff, inspires people and swings the state republican - even then, the dems have very good majorities right now, it woud be tough.
The teachers, prison guard and public employee unions have an absolute strangle hold on the legislative process.
It's bad bad bad.
I absolutely love the place, but the libs just have made unlivable - especially for gun people and libertarian types.
I like Texas a lot, but it is hell on my wife to be away from family

Too early to tell - too many variables in play.
A good friend and shooting buddy and his wife are throwing in the towel and moving to Nevada in two weeks. Last night over dinner, my wife and I promised both we'd catch up with them in about eight years (retirement). Guess that means I'm not overly optimistic, huh?

No way, buisness as usual. Ahhnold will do just as much damage as anyone else. Pesonally I think the good people that are still there should get out, and help those of us that still have a chance. Leaving Kali for a good example of how to ruin a great place to live fast. Unfortunatly, as a Home builder, I see way to many people bringing theyre bad politics/veiws over here from the place theyre trying to escape from. These types are like the plague, they hate where they are so they pack it up, move elsewhere, then attempt to change the new place to mirror where they just fled. I am guilty of building houses for e'm and selling out my own happy place for a living. Ahhh, what do you do? I kinda think that if you move, you should not be allowed to vote for 2 years. It seems after about 2 years people start to intergrate and decide that things are acctually pretty good as they are. But as it stands, they tend to do so much damage in that first two years, that we are going right along (about 10 years behind) with Kali.

The state already has too many people on the gov't payroll, too many illegals, too many people dependant on low-wage labor, and is anathema to even the dimmest of businessmen. They also have problems w/ constitutionally mandated spending, w/ constitutionally mandated limits on taxes.
Aside from a total and complete implosion (which is inevitable as long as we keep Cali's problems inside Cali), nothing will change.

Isn't something like 85% of the state budget mandated by initiatives??? The hummingbirds voting themselves more and more out of the feeder.

I agree with the previous posts, California is all but unliveable due to the leftist ideology that permeates everyday life in California. The first time I visited California was as an avid East Coast surfer from Virginia Beach out in San Diego looking to get some big waves. Not only did I find big, perfect waves, many of the spots I visited were relatively uncrowded. The STUNNING natural beauty of the place, not to mention the perfect weather was truly impressive.
Having said all that, as a gun owner and someone with Libertarian leanings, IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO LIVE WITH THE SHEER STUPIDITY OF THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE. As my grandmother from rural Eastern North Carolina would have said, "Have they lost their ever-lovin' mind?"

having been here over 50 years now, and watching the state change from conservative hell to liberal garbage dump without bothering to stop at "civilized reasonableness", I keep hoping.Anymore, I believe the Democrat leftists have done more damage than is repairable. I wish I were optimistic that wherever I moved would not eventually be a replay of California but I think that's way too Pollyannaish in light of what's going on culturally in this nation, with the aid and abetting of D.C. This is a period for buying time and setting up ramparts.

As a Native Californian and lifelong surfer, I really doubt it will fall into the ocean. Aside from restrictive gun laws and some majorly idiotic politicians,
I'd still prefer living here as I have visited most of the other lower 48. 'Nuff said.

I would like Arnold to help, but he's not really a great choice for gun-owners. McClintock would have been a better call, but he's too conservative to get elected in CA.
Still, I like the state, but wish I could make what I make here back east.

There is no hope for California. It is too crowded, too expensive and every nut case everywhere looking for a like crowd or a handout heads there.

California is the most beautiful place I've ever lived; unfortunately, it's packed to the rafters with socialist parasites and illegal aliens. I doubt it's going to change appreciably for the better in the foreseeable future. It may turn more hellacious less quickly, but that's small comfort.
I've never understood how it got the "Republic" in PRK... other than a tongue-in-cheek put-down of the so-called "republics" around the world. After all, since the people rule through initiatives that - seems to me - to be democracy... everyone pitching their own personal agenda, merging with think-alikes, and often coming out on top. Prop this and Prop that. Tends to keep the voters busy, busy - and not watching the treasury, among other things.
What's new? The nation's "managers" over the past couple generations have been "managing" to put our mothers to work and us in child care with their half-vast enterprises. Today it takes two to tango eking out a decent life - then there's the "marriage" tax for working couples, huh?

I have a cunning plan...
I've been reading over the California Constitution (just some light weekend reading ) and ran across something interesting:
SEC. 8. (a) The initiative is the power of the electors to propose statutes and amendments to the Constitution and to adopt or reject them.
(b) An initiative measure may be proposed by presenting to the Secretary of State a petition that sets forth the text of the proposed statute or amendment to the Constitution and is certified to have been signed by electors equal in number to 5 percent in the case of a statute, and 8 percent in the case of an amendment to the Constitution, of the votes for all candidates for Governor at the last gubernatorial election.
(c) The Secretary of State shall then submit the measure at the next general election held at least 131 days after it qualifies or at any special statewide election held prior to that general election. The Governor may call a special statewide election for the measure.
Acording to my best guess it would only take 633,040 signatures on the petiton to try to get a amendment to the state constitution. Something to the effect of "any legislation enacted that detracts from the ability of law abiding citizens to ensure their [state] constitutionally protected right to defend themselves and their property shall be null and void" I'd let the lawyers work that one over a bit, but it sounds good, who in their right mind would speak out against it?
And once it passes we start repealing gun laws.
Anyone have any ideas?

Taxes, insurance of any sort, etc keep going up and up and up!
and never mind the fact we are under a tidal wave of illegals! Almost half the state is "Hispanic"(I ask..where the heck is Hispania?)..and by 2010...it will be almost 80%..by 2020...90% +
California will not be part of the US by 2015 or so..they will simply vote themselves into Mexico.
