It depends on the design of the SWC
My XD9 subcompact and XD45 tactical both feed respective SWC's well. However, the XD45 is real particular about seating depth.
I use a H&G#68 style SWC and the XD45 requires it a 1.265" - 1.270" oal.
My Springflield Armory 1911 match-target requires them at 1.255-1.265". The 1.265" is an ideal compromise, however, the 1911 will occasionally fail to fully lock closed at this lenght.
The "essence" is that the OAL has to be tailored to the gun.
FWIW; my Glock G22 shoots all the SWC's I've tried through it well. Just the lead has to be hard, and the pressures/velocities low or it leads horribly. (polygonal rifling).
