I use the RCBS military crimp remover attached to my FA case prep center and it does a great job. After using it, primers seat well and uniformly. I was wondering whether on subsequent reloads I could continue to use it as a primer pocket uniformer or whether it would be advisable to buy the actual RCBS primer pocket uniformer. They cost $25-30 and I'd rather not spend $60 dollars if it don't have to.
I'm most interested in this for my M1 Garand since my shooting buddy experienced a slamfire with his reloads from a primer that wasn't seated deep enough.

As always, thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The RCBS primer pocket swager won't make the primer pocket any deeper like a uniformer does. In addition, I'll bet your buddy didn't have the primer seated all the way to the bottom of the primer pocket.

Thanks Grumulkin. I'm not familiar with his reloading practices but you might be right. I check primer seating depth by feel three times and once in a while have to reseat a primer but not very often. Up until now I've never uniformed primer pockets but I do use the metal RCBS primer pocket brush every time which does a very good job of cleaning them.

Unless you're having problems with high primers, uniforming primer pockets for a Garand is likely a waste of time.

Using the primer pocket brush should be more than sufficient.

Just remember not to attempt further seating of high primers in loaded rounds.
