Will this stock work?

I am working on my first rifle build. I will have a savage 110 Long Action with small shank. The barrel will be a 24" varmint contour barrel from what I understand it has the same contour as a factory Savage varmint barrel. I am looking at Boyds stock and for what I want the Boyds classic or Prarie Hunter will have the looks I am going for. problem is they are only made for factory sporter barrel.

My question is can I use either of these stocks and be able to open the barrel channel enough to fit in those stocks barrel channel. The channel is .750 inches with appoximately .010-.015 clearance. The barrels diameter tapers to just under .800. Does any body have any ideas or even have the same setup as I do.

I've got a few more questions can I reuse the barrel nut that is on the original barrel. Also can I reuse the recoil lug?

CarJunkie,What caliber ? Are you changing calibers from what it was before?

Boyd's stocks are a good product,but if you are changing barrel contour's,you will need to open up the barrel channel in order for it to fit a varmint contour barrel.
You should have plenty of material left on the stock to make a varmint contour fit.

Is your 110 action a staggered feed magazine or center feed magazine? If it's a staggered feed,it will bolt into a center feed stock,but you'll need to open up the front edge of the magwell of the stock for the magazine box to fit.

I always replace the barrel nut and recoil lug with aftermarket pieces. Northland Shooters Supply offers a "trued" barrel nut that I always use,and they can get you a good recoil lug also.

I'm also building a 6.5/06 with an older flatback 110 action. I could only buy a center feed action stock for it,and it's a staggered feed action.
I'm waiting on the barrel,so I can't finish the barrel channel work on the stock yet,but I did fit the action in it,and modify the magwell of the stock so the magazine box on the action fits into the stock.

I'm building a 6.5x55 Swede. I don't know yet if its a stagger of center feed yet I'm looking for the right price. Thank You so much your post was very helpful and let me know I can make my barrel fit.
