I used to have a Williams 5D on this rifle and liked it a lot. But I wanted to tune some hand loads and couldn't see well enough out at 100 yds, so I put a 3-9x40 scope on it for a while. Pulled the scope for my new Savage and am really happy to get a Williams back on this rifle. :)

It feels so much lighter and the COG is back down where it belongs.

This time it's a Fool Proof, with a Fire Eye on the front.

Took it to the range today and froze my arse off (15 deg.). But I got her dialed in pretty close. I really like the click adjustments. Big improvement over the 5D.

I've never used the Fire Eye before and was wondering what the best sight picture would be. "Dot on the spot" or "Dot just under the spot".

I worked the trigger on this rifle and this is only the second time I've had it out since. It's breaking crisply at 4 lbs. as measured on an old Lyman "fish scale" trigger gage. It's has really turned out to be one of my favorites. :)

I see why that's one of your favorites, I took the scope off my 336 because it was more of an eyesore (and quite frankly wouldn't fit in my cabinet with it on). That looks like a great setup - I think I'll have to try that out for myself!

I've found that appeture sights are much easier to shoot accurately with than the buckhorns.

The Fire Eye is going to take some getting used to, but it really does grab the light.

I'm not sure if putting the front sight shroud back on (assuming I can remember what I did with it) is a good idea or not.

It would be nice to protect the Fire Eye, but I'm wondering if I'll lose to much light doing so.

and obtw... That's not the standard .09" appeture, but a replacement target appeture, which is .05" dia. if I remember correctly and has a larger "pan"

I have a FP/Firesight setup on my wife's Remington 141 (.35rem) without a hood, but when I had them install a peep sight on my Ruger MKII, I specified a hood, and the hood they installed has a section of the top milled away for light exposure. the hood Williams put on mine has an opening. The whole idea of a peep sight is allowing the eye to naturally center the bead in the aperture. If you then try to take a 6:00 hold, it will screw things up. Put the dot over the target.

Thank you kindly for the pix. I am considering one with the target knobs for ole' Marvin.

Be safe

P.S. - What boat(s) were you on? I worked in Groton as a shipfitter for a while on the SSBN 737-741, Seawolf and a gaggle of the 688's back in the early 90's...
