I'm considering buying a high end custom 1911 and I was wondering what the differences as far as fit & finish, smoothness of the action, smoothness of the trigger and all that are between Wilson and Nighthawk, If there are any at all. And also which one your choice would be or to share any good or bad experiences you've had with either company. The specific models I'm curious about are the Wilson CQB and the Nighthawk GRP but I'm certainly open to hearing about other models if you have any experience with them.

If I buy the pistol it won't be carried. Just something to take to the range and shoot a lot for fun, as well as a nightstand gun.

Got a Nighthawk Talon for Christmas. Excellent gun! I've rented a GRP at the gunshop's range where I got the Talon. Its nice too, but the Talon has a few more features for about $200 more. Didn't see a dimes worth of difference between the Nighthawks and the Wilsons quality wise when comparing them at the gun shop, but I liked the feel of the Nighthawk better. Nighthawk was founded by gunsmiths that left Wilson. You won't go wrong by buying either one.

You can't go wrong with either of them. Probably around my birthday this year i'm going to pick up a nighthawk or a wilson. Just depends on what's available when I have the funds.

I don't like the huge "GRP" rollmarks on the Nighthawk, but that's just me. Pick the one you like best, it's truely a win, win. :)

Either one should serve you well. They are excellent 1911s. When you get to that level of build quality it becomes more of a preference than anything else. Nightwalk is still more of a custom house than Wilson. Wilson is little more of a production line process these days.

I have a Wilson CQB Compact and love the gun. I will say, however, that the word "no" is almost non-existent in the Wilson Combat vernacular when it comes to specing out a custom build. You start with whatever your choice of handgun would be as a jumping off point and customize to your heart's content.

That said, you can't go wrong with Wilson or Nighthawk. Both are great custom builders that will stand behind their product. I can say that Wilson unequivocally stands behind their product, but because of lack of experience with Nighthawk, I reserve comment as to them, but I hear many good things.

As has already been said here, when you get in to picking between Nighthawk, Wilson, Baer, Brown, Volkmann, etc., it really comes down to personal choice. I have a Wilson and a Bear and love both of them, but I prefer the Wilson over the Baer.

My biased choice would obviously be the Wilson.
