I just paid $160 out the door for a very lightly used Winchester Model 1300 with a 26 in barrel and Winchoke. How did I do? Did I give too much or was this as good of a bagain as I think it was?

Ya did good, kid. For a couple days' pay, you just bought a tool that can feed and protect your family for generations while providing recreation. Extra Winchokes are available from the mail order places and Bass Pro,etc.

Now go wear it out....

Curb feelers??? *chuckle* Haven't seen them since the 50's. Betcha most of the guys under 40 don't even know what they are.
I also have a 1300 and it is fun to try to wear it out. Start putting wear marks on that pump.

Age 32 and I know curb feelers!

Then again, I'm an old car nut and I worked in the automotive aftermarket for 4 years... :neener:

Alot of that stuff is still around too... Curb feelers, necker knobs, those vacuum gauges with all the markings for fuel mileage, etc. etc. etc.

$160 for that gun is a great deal, I'm jealous.

That's a very good price for a 1300 in near-new condition. I have several 1300s and find them well-made, reliable guns.

Still haven't shot the gun, but I did break it down and clean it last night. Lot's of dust inside of it, but I don't think it has ever been fired. Looks like it sat in a closet for a few years and never came out until it was pawned.

Nicely done!

Save up and when you get the chance take a good self defense shotgun course from a good trainer. Avoid tarting it up (wasting your money). You'll get much more out of the course than you'll ever get with geegaws. Remember Win '97s in wood and blue were such devastating weapons that the Germans in WWI wanted them banned from the battlefield.

hso, it's got a 26 inch barrel so I doubt it is going to replace the Mossberg for home defense, but it is going to blast a few ducks and geese next year. This gun with the Winchoke should be safe for steelshot shouldn't it?

Yes.
Winchester barrels and the Win-Choke are "proofed" for Steel shot and will be fine for non-toxic shot.

I would recommend Bismuth, as it replicates lead shot real well in patterns, pattern density and penetration.
