Found a used, but very good condition 1300 in my local gunshop today. Wood stock with winchoke in it, and all the blueing is in very good shape. There a few small dents in the stocks, but other than that it looks very well taken care of. Dealer says he will knock about $40 off the $200 sticker for me. Is $160 too much to pay for this gun? Thanks guys.

Had a 1300 20 guage when I was a kid and never really outgrew my affection for them. If you guys say the price is right, then this one is coming home with me.

My opinion would be that it is a great price! The 1300's ceased production just last summer. New Winchester 1300's can still be found in some of the stores but are usually on sale and quite affordable. I have two of them that operate flawlessly. They are equal or better than an 870 in my opinion. I just like the feel of them better. Parts are still plentiful seems like although I haven't needed any. I did buy a Speedfeed Monte Carlo buttstock for the synthetic 1300 my son sometimes uses for trap. I still have the original stock if anyone needs it. The other model I have has nice wood and bluing.

Both my 1300's have the Winchoke system. I bought an extra choke at Bass Pro w/o having to look very hard.

You didn't mention the barrel length or type shotgun you found. What guage? Was it a hunter, clay shooter, or tactical type?

Congrats on your find. Nice gun for an affordable price IMHO.

I didn't look it over real well, but I'm pretty sure it was a hunter with a 24 or 26 in barrel and it's a 12 guage.

Just think about what you want to do with it. If the barrel length meets your criteria, then it is a good deal. If you need a 28" or 30" then maybe you need to look further! Whatever you do, be happy about it and offer no excuse to anyone who criticizes. :)

I've had a Defender for almost 9 years & it has been fine...I've taken a couple classes w/ it & it has not given me any issues. $160 seems fair to me ;)

I have one.
They are very light and you can pump shells through them faster then any other pump gun I know of.

Saw two used Defenders in good shape at one of the dealer's establishments I visit often this week. One 8-shot version was $279, the 5-shot was $269. I'd say your deal is pretty much a steal...
