I just learned (yeah, I am not too swift) that Winchester is now making a reduced-velocity .44-40 load for cowboy action shooting. The published ballistics (from a four-inch barrel, venting not mentioned) are 225-grain lead flat point at 750 fps. The MSRP for this load is $23.95/50 which is inexpensive for factory .44-40.
Since I really hate loading .44-40 for my S&W M544, I am hoping that this load might serve for some fun big-bore plinking. I am wondering if anyone had tried this load and their thoughts.
