Picked up an 88 in .308 this weekend. Can anyone tell me if the butt pad and grip cap are original? She was born in 1967 (SN 206xxx) and I know there were a couple of different designs during the 88's run. The stock is solid with no repairs. image_zpsb646bb0f.jpg

Here's the butt plate & grip cap.

The grip cap is a soft rubber material. Looks like someone might have cut it out to replace the original that was damaged or lost. Didn't the original caps have the big red W and the later ones no lettering?

Thanks guys. So the later grip caps were made of a soft rubber like material? This is going to be my hog/deer/elk rifle so 100% originality is not crucial but did want to know what I have. The 1.5-5X Leupold should work great in the Arkansas woods.

Stopped at Academy Sports and Gander Mtn. as well as 3 Wal-Mart's and couldn't find .308 for under $35/box. Guess I'll start searching online.
