Winchester 88

Picked up an 88 in .308 this weekend. Can anyone tell me if the butt pad and grip cap are original? She was born in 1967 (SN 206xxx) and I know there were a couple of different designs during the 88's run. The stock is solid with no repairs.

Here's the butt plate & grip cap.

The grip cap is a soft rubber material. Looks like someone might have cut it out to replace the original that was damaged or lost. Didn't the original caps have the big red W and the later ones no lettering?

Nice rifle-and, from what I can tell from your photos, looks to be the original butt-plate and grip cap.

Thanks guys. So the later grip caps were made of a soft rubber like material? This is going to be my hog/deer/elk rifle so 100% originality is not crucial but did want to know what I have. The 1.5-5X Leupold should work great in the Arkansas woods.

Stopped at Academy Sports and Gander Mtn. as well as 3 Wal-Mart's and couldn't find .308 for under $35/box. Guess I'll start searching online.
