So a few days ago I got a Winchester 94 30-30 (while i originally intended to go out and buy a .22 plinker) because it was to the best of my knowledge a great deal, $189.99. I checked the serial and according to a website it was made in 1978. The finish is fine except on the receiver theres spots that while cant physically be felt resemble rust, its an adequate amount but it isnt completely covering the gun and ive found none on the barrel or anything. Did I get a good deal? When I told my dad his first comment was "...expensive"

I can't tell anything about any marks from that photo. That rifle was post-64, but not as bad as some of the later ones. Assuming good condition, you got a fair price, though not a super one, but it is a hunting rifle, not a collectors item.

well the tag was technically 199.99 but i haggled down to 189.99 :D total with tax was like 203.46 or something

edit: yeah the spots dont show up well in that photo and they're more on the left side than the right

Coincidentally, I picked up a Winchester 94 .30-30 for $189 out the door a few weeks ago. It is, like yours, in good shape.

Haven't picked up any .30-30 dies yet, but I feel like I've gotten my $189 worth already just racking the action. Yeah, I went out for a .22LR lever action that day too.

I'd say you got a great, classic American rifle for right around $200. Enjoy it.

I have a post 64 94 I bought for $100 years ago and it is truely just a good reliable banger. I load Speer 110 gr HP bullets and put a Williams peep on the reciever. It will do 1.5" off the bench and with the lighter bullets I think it makes a fine plinker and small game gun that is short and light.
I think that given todays inflated prices and the fact that a pre 64 will start at $450 you did alright.

Sorry to see that you're getting rid of it so soon! IMO, I would start out with a new-to-me lever action at some distance closer than 150yds.

well the ammos kind of expensive and im more a plinker kind of person anyway and im not sure lever actions are really my thing anyway... plus it was an impulse buy but oh well

Yeah, I wouldn't have bought mine if I didn't reload. I'm going to mostly load up very, very light plinking loads -- I've got a great load for .30-06 that kicks like an AR, and I bet I can work up (down?) a similar load for .30-30.

Funny, I got my rifle specifically because it was a lever action, and because of the classic JMB design.

94 30-30 great shooter......

With 6million or whatever were made there has to be alot of shooter grade, affordable guns out there...Too much hype and everyone thinks he has a collectable.....IMHO, old guyafish4570:cool::cool:

The 94 is capable of fine accuracy but suffers from having the magazine tube hung on the barrel. If the bands and band screws are freed up from the barrel so they don't bind, those guns will shoot very well.
