I recently bought a pretty well used Winchester 94 in 32 WS (it was made in about 1959-60). I'm having a problem with the loading gate and carrier. When I go to load a round, it's clear that the loading gate is hitting the carrier and thus not opening fully. I took the whole thing down and gave it a good cleaning and tried to figure out what was wrong. Upon reassembly everything seemed to work great (the gate would clear the gate) until I got to the stage in which the pin which locks the bolt and linkage together is reinstalled. At that point the rifle continued to have the same problem. At this point, I'm at a loss for what's wrong. Anyone have any suggestions or encounter a similar problem?

While I don't have a solution you may want to ask a moderator to move this thread to the gunsmithing section. I think you will get some good responses there.

Post this also at Leverguns.com If it was my 94 and I couldn't get expert advice I would be looking at getting a new carrier spring and doing the replacesomethingandpray thing.

I went ahead and pulled out the carrier spring yesterday and it did look pretty worn so I went ahead and ordered a new one. I'm pretty confident that should fix the problem. I'll post here if it does or does not solve the problem just in case someone has a similar problem in the future.
