A friend of mine is selling a Winchester model 94 100th anniversary trapper model 30-30. I don’t have a picture but it is in like new condition with saddle ring roll stamped 1894-1994, no checkering or fancy engraving. He wants $500 and I’m tempted to “pull the trigger”. Am I over paying? Any thoughts?? TIA

It's probably on the low side of what that model will bring. As a shooter though the rebounding hammer models often have issues. I've had two that offered misfires. As a result I've researched the issue and found it is a common complaint.

That is "probably" the Ranger version. Which was Winchesters budget gun at the time. They had cheap hardwood stocks, cheaper sights and the metal was not finished as well.

Knowing what those sold for new I'd have a hard time paying that much. But with all gun prices being crazy right now that may not be over priced. If it is the Ranger I'd personally pass and keep looking for one of the top end guns with walnut stocks and better sights. But that is me. Just make sure of what you're buying before handing over the cash. Pointing out that it is the cheaper budget gun might be leverage to get a better price.

And if it isn't a Ranger, then $500 is a good price.

At a gun show in SWMO and was considering selling my 64 Win 94 Ring Carbine - so I was looking at pricing. There seemed to be NO over 64 Winchesters on the tables. Pre 63 were $850 - 1700. Marlins about the same. I was also watching who brought in firearms and everybody seemed to be asking "asking" prices for their bolt action.

Maybe I should have brought mine in to sell - one online evaluator app put it at $375 and that now seems a bit low.

Finding any lever action these days at that price is tough. I’d recommend acquiring ammo and asking for a field test. If it passes, and you like it, why not.

Being it's described as being a "100th Anniversary Trapper" model, I doubt that it is a Ranger iteration. Well worth $500.00 these days, especially in "like new" condition; you won't find one any cheaper. If it is a Ranger, $500.00 would be a tad too high, imo.

I have an 1893 Marlin in 30-30 that fulfills all my needs in a lever action rifle but I want a model 94 just because. If I ever acquire one it will be a pre 64
