has anybody had this problem on a Winchester 94 trapper 45 long colt. It will not feed the cartridge in the barrel.some one told me it could be your siderails that line up your round to go in barrel. Thanks for any impute.Just bought this rifle very good cond cosmetic wise.

perhaps some pictures of how the rounds are jamming on the way in may help. Im sure there are some members here who would know the answer.

One of the most common reasons for a lever action rifle to malfunction is loose action screws, so check all those first.

Next would be dirt or debris restricting movement of internal parts.

Third would be actual damage/wear to internal parts
(Assuming it's not the ammo itself)

Cartridge length (Overall length or OAL) is critical when you use a pistol cartridge in a lever gun. As the OAL gets closer to the SAAMI max length (1.600") the possibility of a misfeed increases. Too long of a cartridge can prevent the carrier from rising properly and too short can cause the cartridge to misfeed.

Yup, had feed problems with a Winchester '94 with .45 Colt. With mine, the .45 Colt cartridges would drop off the carrier and fall down into the action, jamming it. This was caused by "short stroking" the lever, and was a real pain in the butt. Had to partially disassemble the action to fish out the errant cartridge. The Winchester 1894's were designed around rifle length cases like the 30-30, 38-55, etc. and feed them flawlessly; whereas, the Winchester 1892 was designed around pistol length cases, i.e. 44-40, etc. and feeds them flawlessly. The shorter pistol cartridges in the '94's are susceptible to short stroking and require a real firm and forceful lever manipulation. '92's, not so much. Never had the problem with Marlin 1894C or 1894 CB or Rossi R92's, just Winchester '94's. Had to put leather wrap on the Winchester '94 to protect my fingers. The Win 1894 in .45 Colt is now a safe queen...waaaay back in the safe.
