I just thought i would share a peek at my Favorite. It was given to me when I was born for being the first male grandchild. It is priceless to me, so I will never sell it. It is a Winchester Model 12 16 ga. pump. Full choke. Patent dates are between July 21 1896 and July 22 1913
Sreial # 312033 It has a 27" barrel. It has been re-chambered for todays shells. I believe it has a walnut stock but I am not sure on that. Let me know what you think of it.

What do I think of it? I think you got a terrific shotgun and terrific ancestors. A coupla things...

The 16 gauge Model 12 was built on the same frame as the 20 and 28. It carries like a 20, as the old saw goes, and hits pretty much like a twelve.

Much as I like my 870s, this comes very close to optimum for an upland repeater. Choke's a little tight, but that can be lived with.

Take good care of it, a shotgun like this is a piece of heritage than can be passed down for more generations.

Enjoy....

Dave,
Was it all years of the 16 gauge that was built on the 20 gauge frames, or just certain years?

Anything in particular to look for (or look out for)?

All years.

I know of no dud models or eras with the 12.

Mayhap a real expert on these can elucidate.

Even a Vent Rib!

A 16 ga Model 12 with an original Winchester vent rib is a rare one indeed. This is the only one I have ever seen. Most have solid ribs if any ribs at all.
