My only shotgun is a Winchester Model 12 20 gauge. It belonged to my great grandfarher, and I assume he bought it in the 40s-50s. Can any one tell me it's approximate value, when it was manufactured, ect. serial # is 1346XXX

Shorter barrels and more open chokes are said to be worth more IF original.

the finish is still intact. the only visible wear is on the magazine, which has some of the finish streaked of by the pump handle. by the way, does anyone know how to take the magazine plug out?

I could send you a diagram showing the take down of that gun and all the parts; I'll send another note labeling the parts for you. With this you should be able to get the plug out. Everytime I try and describe how to take one of these guns apart, it develops in more typing than I want to do. What's your email address?

oh by the way what kind is it? it doesn't specify on the gun. is it a trap, quail, pheasant, ect. i know these may not be real models, but i hope you know what i mean (ie theres an 870 express, 870 magnum, 870 turkey, ext.)
I have one I received from my father. S/N 553XXX. Does anyone have any idea how old this one is? It is 12ga, Full Choke, 30" barrel, Nickel Steel, most of the blueing is gone, it just has a nice dark patina color, no rust, original dark walnut stock. Shoots great, it was the first gun I ever fired.
According to Blue Book's reference guide it was made in 1928.
Sorry, just double checked the S/N - I had the numbers mixed up, it is 563XXX. According to http://armscollectors.com/sn/winlookup.php it was made in 1929 - makes sense, it was my grandfathers, then my fathers and now mine.
Hey all, I was wondering about my Winchester model 12, 12 gauge. I dont know the year or price or nothin'. The serial number is 869709 and says it was made in New Haven, Conn. other things it says on the barrel is 2 3/4 chamber, and it says full. if ya could let me know any info on it that would be great. I have a Colt 1911 in my safe.
It was carried in WWII, Korea & Vietman by members of the same family.This gun has more history that you could imagine. I bought it from a grandson that needed money for a car payment. I was actually furious at him for selling it but if I didnt take it somone would have and it would have been lost forever. I took it and put it away for his son who at the moment shows better jugement than the father. I will give it to him at some point when he's older. It's not just a gun it's part of your family history.

Thanks to this forum I now know that my model 12 12 gauge was manufactured in 1914. Can you tell me the value of it? That is the first year the 12 gauge was manufactured right? It is in pretty good shape for how old it is and I have to get a new firing pin. Thanks for the help so far and no I will not sell it for any amount except maybe 2 million

I inherited this shotgun from an uncle around 10 years ago. At that time I had no intention of ever selling it, the blueing was in pretty bad shape, so I, in my ignorance, had it reblued. What made it worse, probably, I had it done in a matte finish. On top of that, there is a slight barrel spread about 3 inches from the muzzle.
After I'd gotten it from my uncle and taking the stock off, I found an Alabama hunting liscense in the stock dated 1936 so I know the gun is that old. All I can find for a serial number is on the bottom front of the receiver, is "33972." The same number is stamped on the back end of the magazine tube. Is that the serial number? Can the date of manufacture be determined with that?

I didn't have a question but thought I had bragging rights here on a Winchester Model 12 Heavy Duck (3" mag) with factory Poly-Choke 30". I just picked it up in Arkansas last Wednesday made in 1951 for $275 from a gun store. No cracks or chips in stock, with factory furniture. Finish is about 80% and took it out today and didn't miss a beat. I even ran 7 shots without letting off the trigger, awesome gun.

My husbands' model 12
My Father-in-Law gave the gun he has had since he was 8 to my husband for Christmas. We don't know a whole lot about the gun because he found it when he was a child out walking with his father. It is a Winchester Model 12 12 guage. It is a Nickle platted smooth boar full choke with either a 30" or 36" barrell. I know he found it sometime between 1947 & 1949 but we don't know the year of the gun. It needs a new stock and to be cleaned but other than that it is in good shape. How would i find out what year the gun is and if we can get a replacement stock for it? I would like to get it appraise for insurance purposes but don't know where to begin. Any information would be appreciated.
