I have inherited my grandfather's Winchester Model 1890. It is a .22 Short. Pump action. Octagonal barrel. Wood is in good condition. Barrel shows some signs of pitting. It has been kept in an open air (but dry) area for the last 15 years. I do not plan on selling it. S/N starts with 367***.

I am interested in the history of the gun and it's approximate worth.
Thanks.

model 1890

The model 1890 is a John Browning design and put into production in 1890, discontinued in 1932. Yours is the standard configuration, 24 inch octagon barrel. These were made in 22 short, long , and long rifle, 22 WRF, not interchangeable. Yours was made in 1908 based on Madis' Winchester Dates of Manufacture. I don't know the blue book, but one in local gun store has five hundred on tag. I have a model 62 (similar to 1890), they are going for around five hundred on up around here.(iowa) Of course any of the classic Winchesters are getting top dollar these days. hang on to it!

Thanks for the very informative reply. I plan to keep it, not shoot it, and hand it down to my son.
