Winchester Model 1897

My dad has a winchester model 1897 12 ga shotgun. The only numbers i see is on the bottom of the reciever. ( D 4127 ) it does have a number on the end of the stock ( 77 9 ). I know these were produced in 1897 to 1957, any information you could tell me about this gun would be great! Thanks, Edwin Johnson

The D xxxx serial number listed doesn't correspond to any Winchester serial number list I have.

If it truly is 4127 it would be one of the first 97's made in 1897.

I believe your are missing the last number. Plug in 41270 and the mfg date is 1899.

Look on the left side, middle of the receiver. Does a spring fit in a small hole and is held by a small screw?
