Hey guys,

It's tax refund time and hey, why not invest in one of my all time favorite rifles? That would be the Winchester 70, pre 64 in a 30.06. She'll be here in a week or two and I'll play around with some commercial ammo so we can get to know each other better. When we're ready to take that plunge into handloads, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience that they'd like to share. I've looked over my manuals, but since I do pretty much all my loading for older service rifles, advice is always welcomed and appreciated. This will actually be my youngest so far. 1951! They just don't make 'em like they used to.....

Thank you mentors!

I have the new 308 FN pre64 style Model 70 but not the original, great gun I love it. I also load 30-06 for my Savage, My pet loads this far have been the tried and true 57gr IMR-4350 pushing a 165gr Gameking though I have found this very very destructive on southern whitetail at close range, another favorite of mine is a 61.5gr compressed load of RL19 and a 150gr Accutip, shoots real fast and real tight, both are max loads though so work up with caution especially in an older rifle. I have some 180 SGKs and DCs worked up but have yet to test them seeing as my brother has kidnapped my 06.
