I'm just kind of curious as to how many folks on here have gone through this, or are going through this right now.

When I was a kid going to camp near the Mojave Desert in California, the camp had a .22 rifle range and I started working my way up the marksmanship ranks. It was fun and nice to have something to shoot for.

When I started buying handguns this past November, I was psyched to find out that the NRA had a marksmanship program for handguns and bullseye pistol.

Since I was starting all three of my kids out on handguns as well, I thought it would be fun and beneficial for all of us to start working our way through the Handgun Marksmanship program. So I bought the appropriate targets, set up a range in the backyard and off we went.

I've found that the Handgun marksmanship program is almost embarrassingly easy. The Bullseye Pistol program appears to be much harder, but I haven't started on that yet.

I just qualified as an 'Expert' in handguns and need to build some addistional target stands so I can start qualifying as a 'Distinguished Expert'. I'm using my 642 and Kimber Ultra Carry to qualify, since these are my main two carry handguns and I want to be proficient in them. When I start Bullseye Pistol I will use my 625JM revolver, since I'm more accurate with that gun.

Anyway, it's been a great way to get my kids to work on their accuracy and motivate them to actually work on getting better, as opposed to just going outside and busting some caps. When they reach a new level, I give them the marksmanship pin they've earned and they put it on their letterman jacket (along with their NRA membership pin).

If any of y'all have kids I certainly recommend it. It's easy to understand and set up and it's a nice tool to motivate the younger folks (and us older folks, too) to gain some proficiency in the handguns we own.

I'm sure this topic has been done to death on here, but since I didn't see a post on this, I thought I'd start one up anyway. :D
