I bought this NRA Commemorative Winchester last week.

I like the configuration; 24” barrel, 3/4 mag tube, pistol grip, Lyman tang sight, Marbles dovetail blank, no barrel bands.

It has significant finish wear and a few dings in the stock caused by its use as a hunting rifle during its 48 year lifespan (1971).

I got it for about 1/3 the price of what unfired ones are going for.

I plan to keep shooting it and even hunt with it occasionally.

I would keep shooting it. a range report on that rifle is almost mandatory. i'm assuming 30-30 cal.?

Yes it is a .30-30

Thanks for the positive comments. I think that it is a very good looking rifle and plan to take it whitetail hunting this winter.

I’ll post a range report after I get a chance to shoot it.

That is a nice looking rifle. I came across one at Cabela’s in Oregon in their gun library a couple of years ago. I can’t recall the price but it was reasonable. I remember it was reasonable because I decided to buy it but felt I had better discuss it with my wife and went off to find her. When I came back there was a very happy young man filling out the paperwork on his new rifle...

I was a little bummed but it was obvious the rifle was going to someone who appreciated it. I haven’t seen one since, well, until I saw this thread.

I hope your new, to you, rifle shoots well. :D

While not an NRA commemorative, here’s my Winchester Model 64A (dates from the early 1970’s).

Essentially it’s the same rifle but without the commemorative markings (it has a fabulous trigger as well)

That’s a 12 inch plate firing 165 grain cast bullets over 14.5 grains of H4227 at 150 yards (fired offhand) using the factory semi buckhorn sights (bout the best I can do with 55 year old eyes).
