Does anyone here have an experience with this RSC: http://www.tractorsupply.com/tools/safes/winchester-reg-gun-safe-1043297

Please don't thread crap, there are many reasons why I am looking at this safe, price/weight is important. This will hopefully give more space that the small AMSEC TF that I have right now.

If you have other recommendations, please keep it reasonably within the price/weight range. I realize this isn't the best RSC, but it's a temporary solution, and I haven't seen anything with similar specs under $1000.

Thanks.

From what I've heard and seen, that particular RSC is very cheaply made. Liberty, Cannon and Dakota make better RSCs in that price range.

The cannon that is the same price as the winchester from tsc is not a better safe IMO. If you compare the two on the site the cannon has smaller overall outter dimensions but yet larger inner dimensions, also the winchester has more/larger locking pins. I went to my local TSC the other day an had to look up the SKU # for them to see if they were gonna get anymore of the winchester safes in, I have to wait til the middle of April to even be able to see the inside of one!

A safe salesmen from another site bought one of those and beat it up with a sledge to show that the seams were just stitch welded, it took him less than 3 minutes to separate the top of that Winchester gun safe.

I'm not saying that the Cannon is a whole lot better but the tolerances are pretty tight and the door is recessed and apparently the warranty is supposed to be pretty good but there has been some complaints from customers around here.

The Dakota can be disassembled which will make it easy to move around when needed.

I read leadcouncil's remark about spending the little extra to get a Sturdy from the other thread, I couldn't agree more; it's an investment to last a lifetime so get something that will give some piece of mind.

I just bought a Fort Knox yesterday... I wish I could have afforded something more expensive and solid, but I think I got a great gun safe for the money. Plus lifetime warranty by a company that will actually pick up the phone when you need them.

weighs 600+ lbs WITHOUT fireliner. not exactly movable. . .

A 600 pound gun safe is very easy to move. I'm 6', 150 pounds, and can move safes like this by myself all day long.

A 600 pound small safe (1 cubic foot) is much harder to move because of the low center of gravity.

Gun safes are very light compared to real safes. Our average commercial safe in the 60x30 range will weigh 3,000 pounds.

how easy is it to move 600lb safes up tiny vintages staircases? that is often the problem i run into.

The weight itself going up is easy with the proper equipment. Turns or landings can make it much more difficult.

Without fancy equipment, 3 guys and appliance dolly can muscle one up. Without any equipment at all, 1 meth head can toss one down. ;)
