Winchester Value Pack in .40 S&W

I just bought a Chronometer and had the following results from my 5 1/3" barrel Glock 35:

Winchester USA 180 grain FMJ = 965 fps average

Remington UMC 180 grain FMJ = 982 fps average

Wolf 180 grain FMJ = 918 fps average

lbmii,

What was the extreme spread on the Winchester ammo?

That was my problem. I'd get 5 or 6 rounds 1100fps and 4 or 5 at 1000fps or less. At 25 yards there would be almost 2 distinct groups vertically strung. You could feel and hear the difference. I still have part of a box from this lot. The ammo is feed reliable and goes bang, but that isn't enough for me. I guess I just have different standards for what is good ammo.

I only did a very small sample of 9 rounds with the Winchester USA 180 grain FMJ. The Low was 951, the high was 986, the average was 965, the extreme spread is 35, and the standard deviation is 13. I wonder how you got such a higher velocity than me.

My results with winchester value pack mirrors HSMITH's except that I feel the same the 9mm load is junk too. I did run some over a chrono and velocity varied over 100fps.

Yeah ok.
It's "seconds" just like everything else Wallyworld sells.
But, for plinking and such, it's just fine!!!
In that application, I really don't think that 100fps matters!!!

In fact, I fired 150 rounds if the 9mm through my P99 this weekend. It went bang every time I squeezed the trigger and it shot to point of aim.

No problems here!!! :D

lbmii,

I tested 9mm, that's how!

Your SD is pretty good, did you fire for accuracy?

denfoote,

I don't buy factory very much, but I expect a certain level of quality control from ammo. Shooting the Winchester bulk pack I was constantly in fear that one of the underpowered rounds would result in a stuck bullet. I suspect the bulk packs are ammo that is just barely within spec on either end of the spectrum. That why some boxes produce only high velocity, some low, some both.
There shouldn't be second quality ammo, the risk is too great. Some things just need to be done right.

Dave,
That's where you got me. I don't reload at all.
All I know is that many a ten and two ones have passed across the sporting goods counter at my local Wallyworld. I have shot the W.W. W.W.B. for years in 9mm, 10mm kurz, and .45acp.
I haven't had any problems with it!!!
Now, I'm being told that it's :cuss: ammo???!!!! :banghead:
Hey, it works for me!!! :D

Hey guys!!!
Please refrain from buying the stuff!! That means there's more for me!!!!
