I've got a Win 1300 I absolutely love. I've been thinking of dressing it down into a home defense role. obviously, I'd need to pull the plug, slip in a shorter barrell, and maybe get a folding stock/pistol grip or a shorter buttstock.
Suggestions? I don't need no stinkin overly tactical stuff, just practical modifications to a damn fine firearm. Gotta keep the OEM barell and stock for hunting, too.

Forget the pistol grip IMO. They are hard and painful to shoot with. Keep the original wood and maybe cut it down an inch or so for better control. Depends on how it fits now though. Looks like all you really need to do is get a new barrel or have the one that you have now cut down.

edit-scratch cutting it down. Just saw that part. Anyway, a used barrel could be found for cheap I think.

Try any barrel on your gun before you buy it. The Defender barrels have their magazine tube mounted farther forward than the 1300 field guns. It may be easier to buy a Defender than to convert your field gun into one.

Skip the folder/PG only dreck unless you're only doing firefights in phone booths. Get a standard stock fitting well and shoot until deadly.

Hmm, in your shoes I'd just plunk down a couple Bens and get a Defender. USe your present gun for clays, hunt ing and other fun that doubles as training.

Oh Dave...you might need to explain what a "phone booth" is :D

ROFL...about phone booths...I'm extremely serious when It comes to gun fit, learning how to shoot, BA/UU/R. This will keep one alive.

Doo-dads, wish books, flowered shirted writers want your money or their egos inflated ( or both) , remember "dead" is a long time...
