Winston-Salem,NC, needs your help....

A local mayor in my state has made it clear he is pushing for hi-cap magazine and "assault weapon" bans. This is the mayor of Winston-Salem,NC. I have already emailed him. I need help from others. He made the statement, on the local news, that no self respecting hunter would use either one. I informed him about the 2nd amendment wasn't about hunting and his facts were incorrect. I will add a link to his webpage below. Under his photo on the top right side you can click his name to email him. I am asking anyone that would help, to write him and let him know how self respecting hunters and shooter feel. I also provided him numbers from the FBI's website on gun violence, since he believes these rifles and magazines are the major problem.. Thank you, to anyone that has the time to write and help. I fear it will get out of hand quick if we do not speak up..

I watched him last night on the local news making the comments on gun control in Winston-Salem...

The state has a preemption law that prevents county or municipal governments from enacting gun laws that are more restrictive than state law. It doesn't matter what he "thinks" he can't get a city ordinance in place that is more restrictive than the state laws.

It is important to educate elected officials on the facts, but sometimes it is important to "school" them in public. Does he have a Facebook page, does Winston-Salem have a page where comments can be left?

I have no idea, I don't use facebook. He passed an ordinance to ban concealed carry in the city parks. My county did the same same thing here. It was challenged and the NC Attorney General upheld the ban. NC, is a screwed up state, the town of Blowing Rock completely banned concealed carry the same way, and was also challenged and upheld. I dispise this place more and more. Thanks HSO, I really appriciate the information, maybe it needs to be challenged on a higher level...

move to the beach.... its full of gun toters. beaufort county just passed a gun control nullification act. i grew up in new bern and open carried since i was 16, never had a problem.

Thanks paintballdude, you are right about Beaufort county. I really like that area just because the attitude people have. I hope NC has enough gun lovers who will keep the state moderately pro gun. We still have a way to go on some of our laws, but hopefully one day......

Email sent. I focused on his ignorance about hunting if he truly thinks no self-respecting hunter would use a modern sporting rifle with 20 or 30 rounds, describing the wild hog herds I hunt that have up to 40 smart, aggressive animals in them.

Thank you so much guys.. I swear it is everything I have got, just to get some of my friends and family to get active. I feel good that we really do have an online "family" of gun owners. I thank each and everyone of you for your help. He is one, that I think we can sway with enough of an outcry.

agreed, i want to see the purchasing permits go away. i have a good friend that is neighbors with good ol' bev and i told her that one day. she kinda stared at me then i told her it was a left over jim crow law and she got very defensive. not sure why, maybe it was the 20yo kid telling her a law was at one time racist....

between the military folks and the rednecks, anyone in NC that were to put in a state wide assault weapons ban or a mag capacity ban would be out on their a$$ pretty quick

The closer you get to a university, the more liberal the thinking is. Wake Forest , as you know, is in Winston Salem. App State is right next door to Blowing Rock. My guess is, that's why these measures were able to pass in these areas.

I seriouly doubt that the Govenor will mess with anything a Mayor does in his little thiefdom, so the best you can do is keep your powder dry and vote his knew-jerk fanny out of office when the time comes.

Ya got ta wonder about someone who would make an argument about what hunter's needs are within the city limits anyways...
