I'm pretty darned excited, winter league starts a week from tomorrow. I missed summer league last year do to a stroke and some other health issues. It really took a toll on me mentally and skill wise. I'm back in decent condition though, so it's time to compete.

Our winter league is a little unconventional. It's outdoors, in IL, so it's cold, wet, snowy, etc. the rules are changed to allowing two hand hold and we use rapid/times fire targets for slow fire, all shot at 25 yards.

I'm pretty amped up. I've burned up 3500 rounds in the last six weeks practicing.

Outstanding! Huge kudos on your perseverance and hard work!

Do well and have fun. You earned it.

We have a new indoor range opening in my small town of 6900. It's a little too pricey for me to shoot at regularly but I plan on participating in the bullseye leagues.

MrBorland, have you seen this.

I recall shooting there once. Nice place. It's good they've got some matches - it seems the triad surprisingly doesn't offer a lot of shooting venues.

I'd like to shoot bullseye someday. Too many things to try but too little time. So, in the meantime, I lurk over ljnowell and tuj's shoulders. :D

Do you use a scoring handicap system so all skill levels can compete on a even level ? We used this one for many years, in my younger days.

We use handicapping in our summer league but the winter league is a straight up league. Teams are drawn at random also. I got lucky in that my uncle, who is my shooting partner, and I got drawn on the same team.

A winter league fired outdoors would have me shooting all rapid fire, then running to some where to get warm here. Have fun, thats what its all about.

Bring a large tent, the kind with opening wall flaps, and a propane heater.
Don't forget to open the flaps before shooting, though.
One range had a shelter built with storm windows from the local house recyclers, a corrugated metal roof, and a donated pot belly stove.
Just a thought.

We went out again today and practiced for four hours in the sleet and slush. Shouldn't be a problem doing a twenty minute match. Practicing in the cold has helped.

Been a long time, but finally got out shooting today. Hope we seen the last of the 0 degree temperatures and snow. Have to stick to 22 or revolvers now, dont want to loose my 45 acp brass in the remaining show.

It's been pretty nice the last week or so here. Last Saturday it was 40 degrees on the line at 8:15. I managed to knock out a 287 but had a disappointing x count of only 6! I'll take the good with the bad though, a 287 isn't shabby.
