Wisconsin Now Has CCW!!!!!

The Wisconsin republican state senate passed the override of demo-rat Gov. Doye's veto of the CCW/PPA (this AM, 1-22-04).!!!!!:neener:

Yes, Still has to go to the Assembly, sorry...

Despite all the drama-queen antics of the Dem Minority Senate leadership, the Assembly is actually tougher. CCW passed the senate with 24 votes IIRC, two more than needed for override, and we only lost one Democrat out of mindless fealty to the Govenor. There were some pro-CCW Dems there today who are very 'teed-off at the Dem leadership. :D

The Assembly passed CCW two votes shy of veto-proof, but two nominaly pro-CCW Republicans weren't entirely against the bill and have promised to vote for the override. So that means we have exactly the number of votes needed, and can't afford to lose any.

We are so close, but the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

Huh?? It passed the legislature originally and got vetoed by the Gov.
So now the Senate gets to override, and they succeeded. So it should be law now, right? Or is Wisconsin so do something wierd in their legsilature?

Both houses of the legislature have to override with a 2/3rds vote. The override passed the senate and now the override has to go to the Assembly (House).

Some states have differing constitutions, some have only one legislative house instead of two etc.

I thought most states with two houses had veto overrides requiring 2/3rds majority in both, WI isn't that unusual is it?

From a political standpoint, the antis are just killing themselves on this issue.

Post 9/11 the support for CCW even among the "blue" pro-Gore states is up in the 70% range. The politicians fighting for the anti cause had better be in-step with the populace on everything else... otherwise they are doing the political equivalent of a banzai charge against fixed machineguns.

"From a political standpoint, the antis are just killing themselves on this issue."

I just love a happy ending!!! :D

New Mexico, Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin all in short order... excellent. This will leave only illinois, Nebraska and Kansas as non-issue....along with many , many counties in California and the North East.

It ain't over 'til it's over. If you're from Wisconsin, please contact these representatives and politely tell them that you want them to vote to override Doyle's veto:

Republican Representative Luther Olsen from the Berlin area (608)-266-8077

Republican Representative John Townsend from Fond du Lac (888)-529-0052

Representative Barbara Gronemous from the Whitehall area (888)-534-0091

Representative Marlin Schneider from the Wisconsin Rapids area (888)-529- 0072

Representative Gary Sherman from the Port Wing area (888)-534-0074

Representative John Steinbrink from the Pleasant Prairie area (608)-266-0455

Representative Terry Van Akkeren from Sheboygan (608)-266-0656

Representative Amy Sue Vruwink from the Milladore/Plover area (888)-534-0070

Representative Wayne Wood from the Janesville area (888)-947-0044

Please also call the representatives who voted against the bill in November but are from the districts of the five Demcrat senators who voted to override today. Today's vote will call into question their opposition to the bill. After all, if the senators realized that their constituents want concealed carry, why are these representatives against it? Those representatives are:

Representative Louis Molepske Jr. from Stevens Point (888) 534-0071

Representative Greg Huber from Wausau (888) 534-0085

Representative James Kreuser from Kenosha (888) 534-0064

Representative Jon Richards from Milwaukee (888) 534-0019

Representative Christine Sinicki from Milwaukee (888)_534-0020

One last thing you should do is call the offices of the five Democrat senators who voted for the override and thank them for their courage. If they receive enough positive feedback, they'll tell their colleagues in the assembly. And that certainly can't hurt. The senators phone numbers are:

SENATOR ROGER BRESKE, from Vilas, Oneida, Lincoln, Langlade, Menominee,
Florence, Marinette, Forest counties (800)-334-8773

SENATOR ROBERT WIRCH, from Kenosha county (888)-769-4724

SENATOR JULIE LASSA, from Wood, Portage, Adams counties (608)-266-3123

SENATOR RUSS DECKER, from Price, Rusk, Taylor, Marathon counties
(608)-266-2502

SENATOR JEFF PLALE, from southern Milwaukee county (608)-266-7505

New Mexico, Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin all in short order... excellent

Don't forget Minnesota, which according to the leftists would return to the Old West. (But of course it didn't.)

This will leave only illinois, Nebraska and Kansas as non-issue....along with many , many counties in California and the North East.

Plus states (MD, NY, NJ) that in theory are "may issue" but in reality are "no issue". Its even worse than NE or KS in that it prevents us from getting some non-resident CCW. (As an example, we in MD and NJ can't get a PA non-resident CCW, but someone from NE or KS could - because you need you home state permit first, not applicable if your state doesn't have any type of CCW).

RightisRight

I don't know about Maryland, but in NJ, you can get an out-of-state CCW from Florida.

What!? NJ allows carry if you have an out-of-state permit? I used to live there, and I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams the PRNJ allowing such a thing. Are you sure? And if it applies to FL, does it also apply to a TX CHL?

Changed the title of the thread from "Wisconsin Now Has CCW!!!!!" to "Wisconsin Almost Has CCW!!!!!"

Once all good Wisconsin residents have called their assembly members and they override the cowardly veto by Doyle, I'll gladly change it back. :)

Keep up the good work guys!

Folks, it's coming down to just two members of the assembly: Representative Gary Sherman and Representative Amy Sue Vruwink. Word out of Madison is that one or both might flip, since both are members of the Democrat assembly leadership and are thus closer to Governor Doyle than most. Their phone numbers are in my previous post.

The good news is this: Representative Sherman is one of two Democrat co-sponsors of the bill. He signed on right away last summer. How can he flip and convince his constituency, which is heavily pro-gun, that he didn't get bought off? Also, Representative Vruwink is an NRA member, and this is her first term in office. She hasn't exactly established a strong base from which she can stray from the pro-gun constituency in her district.

In the end, if any of the seven assembly Democrats flips, he/she will be take the blame for the concealed carry bill failing in Wisconsin. That person won't just be the target of gunowners in his/her district; that person will be the target of the wrath of every pro-gun group in the state come the fall elections. Plus, that person will be the target of the most powerful lobbying group in the US.

Put yourself in Representative Sherman or Vruwink's shoes. What would you do?

Get on the phones!
