Wish me luck (hand damage from recoil)

I've been shooting twice since this thread started and my hand is basically all healed up. I strongly recommend the safari-land hatch kevlar shooting gloves I have been using to help prevent injury at the range on the hot loads. Thanks for your support.

Tony - glad to hear things worked out for you.

As I've gotten older, I tend toward much more moderation than in my younger days. That beats up your body a lot less. When it comes to firearms that means loads that will get the job done with as little blast, recoil, and fuss as necessary. It doesn't take much to punch paper. And, the right bullet in an appropriate chambering will get most other self defense and hunting jobs done.

Well I've had some of those scandium .357 2 inch snubs and I tell you, it hurt my wrist to fire five rounds of .357 magnum out of them.
I hear that. I moved to a Free State rather late in life, and got my CHL shortly thereafter. I bought and tried one of everything (two or three of several) including three of the Scandium j-frame Magnums.

I shot them enough to realize that it was a poor choice, but it took a bit to reach that conclusion. Six or seven years later, my wrist still hurts, and I regret pressing the issue.

glad things are better TtT

personally i never understood when it became fun shooting high powered rounds from a lightweight firearm.

I like something with a bit of heft to it (Boss in open range)

I (almost) always have a S&W 442 on me. There are more appropriate firearms depending on the context of the situation, but I have yet to find one more convenient that I can throw in a Mika's pocket holster in a pair of summer shorts while lounging around the house. The tradeoff is weight, recoil, and the short barrel. It might not be the best solution at all times, but it may be the only solution at any time. I tried pocket carrying my Remington M. 870 but it printed too much ;)

I'm committed to avoiding injuries, and more educated on it now, but I also acknowledge the role of the lightweight snub in my current lifestyle.
