Anybody tried it? Search only turned up one thread several months ago, when it first came out. There was a comment or 2 on reliability, but none on accuracy.

Am I going to be disappointed in the accuracy? Is it a viable alternative to South African surplus .308, which seems the only available surplus right now.

I haven't seen any Port or Aussie .308 surplus around lately...

But the local store has a good price on Wolf .308...

That's why I'm wondering if the stuff shoots worth beans.

i like it . i like it a lot, wspecially the goldbrass line, very good very consistent. plus they have a lot of weight ranges.

aimsurplus.com has a 'good supply' of South African...it's pretty good.

Ammoman.com has Lake City, more expensive but cleaner and smaller groups.

I guess the Wolf is OK for practice...never shot it after hearing the lacquer case horror stories.

I have used the WOLF in my FAL. It shot 4 moa (this being a 100 yard set up, on sandbags, not off hand). The cases weren't lacquered though, and the WOLF I've seen for all calibers for a little while now hasn't been. Granted, I'm talking about the steel cased stuff. The WOLF gold made by Prvi Partizan I have no idea. But, I would imagine it's probably very affable.

It's all that I've shot out of my Saiga. I really like it. It's definitely been reliable, but it's also been pretty accurate for me. I only kept my scope on it for a while, but I was always beating 2 MOA by a fair margin with it. I've not shot it out of any other .308 rifle.

I was at the range the other day a guy was shooting wolf in a new Glock it broke his extractor. I tryed it and wouldn't take an box if it was gave to me.

No offense meant, but with all the stories I hear on this site, I almost never believe what people 'thought' broke their gun without hearing more information.

I believe you. I once bought 500 rounds of Wolf 9mm, and shot it through my Hi-Power. About every 5th round would stick REAL BAD in the barrel. I would have to jam it out with a dowel. That's gotta be hard on an extractor. I had to replace my extractor just before the 500 rounds was used up. Still can't believe I was stupid enough to shoot it all, know how bad it was sticking.

But my AK loves the stuff. And I'll be shooting the .308 in a CETME and an Ishapore Enflield. I highly doubt that the Wolf will bother them.

Thanks for the shooting reports, mordechai and spooky. If I can get 2MOA out of it, I'll be a happy camper.

Aussie and Port 7.62mm NATO (except linked Port) are gone...

The South African ammo that AIM is currently selling is great stuff...

Most of the reports that I have heard about the Wolf polymer steel case .308 have been pretty positive, and the price is certainly quite good.

However, there have been reports of at least one lot of the .308 Wolf that is linked to rifle blow-ups. I recommend that you call up Wolf directly and find out what lot was involved...

Every time I hear a Wolf bash I have to wonder if the chamber dimensions are within SAMI specs or if we're talking about a stack up of tolerences. I can accept that a manufacturer intent on delivering inexpensive ammunition will need to loosen their tolerences a bit. That being said, the tolerences established by SAMI allow for considerable variance not to mention that as a gun wears it may in fact exceed maximum SAMI specs. The general condition exhibited under this circumstance is poor accuracy. I think the steel cased ammo is particularly vulnerable to this condition because the application of laquer causes yet another variable to the overall dimensions of the cartridge. THAT BEING SAID I believe that anyone swearing that steel cased ammo is causing damage to chambers knows less about metalurgy than they should.

Rockstar, you are making sense. I suspect the bad experience I had with Wolf 9mm was because its tolerances were a bit generous, and maybe my Hi-Power was a little tight.

Ishapore Enfields are known for sloppy chambers (although I had my headspace checked, and its in spec.) so I'm still not concerned about the Ishy. The CETME...I dunno. Lacquer in the chamber flutes might not be a good thing. But I have a good technique for cleaning chamber flutes (featuring a .45acp nylon brush.) So I'll try it, anyway.
