Anybody know where I can order Silver Bear, Barnaul, or Wolf .308 ammuntion? None of my usual online ordering places seem to have it. They have plenty of the above in .223, pistol cartridges, even .30-06, bu tno .308.

I'd like to try out some of this cheap plinking stuff for my FAL. Yes, yes, I know about the Indian, South African, and Portugese, but I'm always on the lookout for another ammo source.

I swear. I've searched the internet several times. I know that Silver Bear MAKES .308 ammunition, I just can't FIND any. I've found places that apparently have it, but they're wholesalers that only sell to dealers.

It's not that I don't like the various milsurp .308 out there, but that supply isn't going to last forever. Besides, I just want to try it out. It's always good to have another supply of ammunition.

Nightcrawler:
AIM Surplus, www.aimsurplus.com, has some Silver
Bear ammo listed in its new flier. No .308 though. They are selling Igman softpoint .308 made in Bosnia. It is $5.95 per box of 20, if you buy 500 rounds.

Get a copy of Shotgun News. Towards the back, you'll see ads for Gulf Coast Ammunition and The Ammunition Store. If they don't have it, they can get it. Check the whole paper because there are other suppliers that might carry it.

Midway USA has Barnaul .308 for something like $256 per 1000 rounds, which frankly is EXPENSIVE. Granted, it's for soft point and not FMJ plinking fodder, but fifty cents a round for steel cased Russian stuff? Come ON.

I've emailed Wolf about their .308. They DO make it, I've just never seen it.

As for Silver Bear; I've been looking and looking, nothing so far. Ammunitionstore.com doesn't have it, though I'll have to call Gulf Coast Ammunition.

My friend has the silver bear catalogue and he tells me that they do indeed sell .308 ammo. It can be ordered through the catalogue.

One of the reasons you don't find it is because there is so much military surplus .308 on the market right now. Once that starts getting shot up and depleted, you'll start seeing Silver Bear and other Russian .308 ammo. Right now, distributors make a better profit margin buying military surplus .308 than they probably would selling new Russian made. If people have a choice between the two, they'll take the cheaper milsurp stuff, and the Silver Bear would sit on the shelf. I shoot milsurp .308 out of my Ruger International. But I use Russian ammo exclusively in my AK. How about buying yourself some South African or Portuguese .308 milsurp? I've shot both and it's good stuff. Or get yourself an AK. :D

How about S&B? Decent quality, brass cased, inexpensive, Eastern European (Czech Republic) ammo.

Natchez shows it in the paper catalogue for $6.78 a box, though the website shows that they are currently sold out. On the site right now you can get Federal's American Eagle for $7.99 and if you prefer Winchester White Box they have it in the catalogue (not online) for $8.58 (yes, that is starting to get pricy, but this is brand new production American made ammo).
