Wolf 6.5 Grendel ammo is now available for sale on Alexander Arms' Website.

In the beginning, there was Alexander Arms ammunition with premium Lapua brass at $1.00 a pop.

Now we've got Wolf 6.5 Grendel brass-cased ammo at 50¢ a pop.

I hear Wolf 6.5 Grendel steel-cased is on the way. Price? :D:D:D

Now if AA would just open-source the Grendel rifle/uppers like they just did with the ammo, we'd all be better off. AA would make money on every rifle chambered in that caliber, without having to lift a finger, and we'd get the benefit of some competition among manufacturers.

I really want a Grendel, but the price is several $hundred too high.

Sam, any manufacturer with a little forward-looking vision can ring AA and get to work on Grendels.

If you'd like to put in your word for cheaper Grendels, go to Bushmaster's shopping page and participate in their little "future caliber" poll. ;) Today's the last day!

Sam Adams:

Is there something stopping others from making 6.5 Grendel uppers? AFAIK, most of the parts are pretty standard stuff (7.62x39 bolt and such) and there's nothing secret about the chamber dimensions or barrel specs.

At worst, I'd suppose "6.5 Grendel" is trademarked and an unlicensed upper would have to marked 6.5x39 or something, similar to the old "22 Varminter"/"22-250" issue.

What am I missing?

I love the 6.5mm concept. If it was a standardized caliber, I would never buy anything except 6.5. Unfortunately, it's not, and the only way you can afford to shoot it is if you reload.:(

Sabre Defense makes uppers in 6.5 Grendel. Those guys are supposedly have .mil contracts so their stuff is supposed to be super duper top notch according to some of the AR15 experts that talk about the short comings of the civilian targeted ARs like BM, Armalite, DPMS, RRA, etc.

EDIT: forgot to say, that is great this is happening. I really hope 6.5 Grendel takes off big and can be found more places.

Evil, maybe you're using a super inexpensive bullet, but 50¢ a round is getting sort of competitive with some reloads, isn't it?

But I hear what you're sayin'. Even if this isn't the Holy Grail of cheap 6.5 Grendel ammo, we still have steel-case to look forward to. Forget the AK47, can you say, "AK65"? ;)

Look for it at those fine retailers who carry Wolf Ammo! :D

Anyone know of a Sabre retailer I can get an upper from, or do I order directly from the company? Ive got a BM lower waiting.....I have been trying to put this off, but now I am going to have to sell something to get my "270 short" AR.

There are several manufacturers making 6.5 Grendel uppers - Competition Shooting Sports, Les Baer, Sabre Defense, and others...

I'd really like to set up a DM rifle with a 6.5 Grendel upper...I think it would be the cat's meow

  • 20" flat top upper
  • Full length gas system
  • Free float handguards
  • Flip up irons
  • RRA 2-stage match trigger
  • Harris bipod
  • CAA adjustable monopod stock
  • Burris 4.5-16x50 Ballistiplex scope

I asked the in-house 'smith at Oly Arms if they'd be making anything the 6.5G, and he said that getting permission from AA to do so was only slightly less painful than getting permission from Apple to make Mac clones.

Not sure if it's true, but I assume there's a reason RRA, DPMS, Oly, Bushmaster, etc,-the big name AR makers-none has ventured forth with a Grendel.

Not wanting to get slapped with patent & trademark infringement.

There is no patent on the 6.5 Grendel. What would you patent? There is nothing particularly unique about the cartridge. It's ultimately just a necked down, blown out, 7.62x39. Pretty standard wildcat stuff.

As for the trademark, that's easy - just don't call it 'Grendel'. Call it 6.5x39mm or 6.5-22PPC or something.

I've heard that Competition Shooting Sports

Has taken to calling it the 6.5 CSS.
