What works, Works period.

It all depends on YOUR gun and opinion. Fire 1000 rounds no hang ups I would think it works who cares about others experience you did your testing now feel confident.

wolf OK

weve fired lots of wolf thru my buddies xd and it never hurt it. ive got a glock 23 so i buy the stuff by the case. out of probably 5000 rds ive had one misfire and that was a primer blew. didnt hurt me or the gun but it did scare the crap out of me

thats what i try and get first when im shooting my xd40..if they dont have that i go with pmc.

ive never had a prb with wolf in my xd at all..and for that matter no prbs period with any ammo ive used..i dont think its had a FTF, FTE at all..now watch i just jinxed myself

I use Wolf ammo in my XD-45 all the time. Probably... hell, I don't know... at least 1500 rounds by this point. Maybe more. At any rate, it works just fine. Never had a single problem with it. It's definitely dirtier than WWB or Remington's UMC, but performance-wise it seems identical to me.

As far as folks who are worried about damaging the gun... *shrug* - I guess that's up to the individual, but I don't baby my guns. If I'd thought the XD was going to need to be pampered, I would have bought something else.

PMC caution

I'd avoid the PMC white box with red and black stripes. I posted (somewhere around here) about my problems with PMC ammo in my Sigma. I'd fire a full 14 round mag of PMC and get more than two (on average) soft primer hits. I thought it was something I'd have to send in for service, but I talked to a S&W rep who said he'd had similar issues with PMC ammo in general. I've never had an issue with any other ammo, including Wolf. Maybe your XD will like it, but if you seem to get a lot of FTF's, that's probably why. I think it might be inconsistant case lengths, or maybe a bad taper.

I use wolf ammo in my .223 AK, and it eats it just fine. But, as previously stated, these guns are designed to shoot just about anyting that will fit in the chamber. However, I have shot Wolf 9mm and a few other calibers, with no problems in any of my firearms. The trick seems to be not to buy the lacquer coated case stuff. that's when you start getting the PITA to clean situation. And as far as being able to shoot it through your XD? I'd say why not? Any quality firearm (IMHO) should be able to handle what ever you throw at it(with proper care and cleaning). I would definately say that your XD is a quality firearm, so I wouldn't worry about it. It does tend to wear extractors out a little faster though(steel being a lot harder than brass) and you can not reload it either(which sucks for us who like to reload). The question you should ask yourself is, Is all this worth the few dollars you'll save per box?
Shoot it, see if it performs well for you. Clean the gun, see if it is too much of a PITA. Then decide for yourself. You also might want to do a google on the Ballistics for the specific caliber of wolf you'd like to shoot, and compare that to other brands. Just my two cents.

i have used pmc that was described above, only about 100rds but i didn't have those types of problems though. maybe i got lucky.

lots and lots of replies, i like it, i should have know when wolf is in the heading people like to get elbow deep in it!:D keep it comming, not everyone has chimed in yet.

Before I started reloading I put 2500 rounds of Wolf 45ACP through a Taurus PT945 and I had very good results. It was pretty dirty but nothing that a little extra cleaning won't fix.

Not going to pay 500 for a pistol and then feed it Wolf. Wolf is for my commie guns.

Umm...yeah. NEWSFLASH: The XD is made in Croatia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, which makes the XD just as much a commie gun as AKs built in democratic Russia. So Wolf ammo is ok in a Saiga, or a Yugo SKS, but it's not ok in a Croatian built HS2000? I'm just checkin here.

:what: no way, when did they start doing that?:)

good point man, i guess i ain't the only one that was thinking that huh?

Possum, I won't use green laquered Wolf in my AR, because I've heard way too much about the laquer gumming ARs, and they're sensitive enough to being dirty. On the other hand, I wouldn't be afraid to try Wolf in something that was designed to eat anything. I would think that the XD, being designed and built in Croatia, would certainly have Wolf and like types of locally/regionally available ammo factored into to the specs. As others have said, Wolf's cheap and dirty, but so what? Considering what you've already done to that XD I doubt it'll even know you're shooting Wolf in it. Let us know how it goes.

My carry 1911A1 eats Wolf up and spits it out just fine. Then again, the pistol is coated with NP3 and I just get to wipe off the residue.

ugaarguy,
yeah i will definetly stick to the polymer coated stuff in my ar's, the first ar i had i shot 1500rds of so of the old type wolf and i saw definet discoloration and lacuer build up on the inside of the upper reciever. and like you said, the wolf ammo will probally be welcome relief for my xd. next i plan to freeze her, which wouldn't be that hard considering the temps latley but the hard part would be getting it to thow out.:)
