I bought 80 rounds of wolf HP a few weeks back and attempted to shoot them this weekend..... Not a single one went off on the first hit. The strikes were deep, so it wasn't the sks's fault. Nearly all went off with hit number two. Has anybody else had this happen? What brand would you recommend because that's the last time I'll be using wolf HP

x39?? I've never had a problem with them, but as with most all Ruskie military ammo the primers are sunk deep and are quite hard. So your SKS spring may indeed be weak or the pin could be getting gummed with my namesake.
 
How well cleaned is your action? I had a problem with jams when i let my action get too dirty; sometimes i get lazy and only clean the barrel.
 
I've put several thousand rounds of wolf(123fmj/123hp/154sp) through my SKS and I've never had a round fail to fire.

as has been mentioned before, firing spring, cosmoline.
 
If you still have the dud rounds with the deep firing pin craters send pictures of them to Wolf. They say they warrant their ammo.

This rifle is still new (2nd trip to the range) but when I bought it new I gave it a very though cleaning. It functioned fine with winchester and shot baseball sized groups at 50 yards, but the wolf didn't work out (misfires and inaccurate). I cleaned it again tonight, and I found that the firing pin is still bleeding cosmoline. I soaked the bolt in mineral spirits, etc, so it should be good now. I'm going the try smaller samples of ammo to find it's favorite, so maybe it wasn't the ammo.

I've shot a lot of Wolf...and only had one round not go off when fired. And as luck would have it, it was the only time I was using my AK to fire at something other than paper. I was hunting hogs. Luckily the sounds only drew their attention slightly for a moment, and then they went back to foraging for food. I was able to quitely chamber another round and get back in the game. Had they bolted at the sound and ruined my hunt...I would have been very upset with Wolf. But, seeing as this is the only failure I've had with them....no worries. IMO an infrequent event like this is worth the convienience of ammo that's 1/3 the cost of most American brass hunting ammo in 7.62x39.
 
I actually have had this problem with Wolf hollowpoints. It was when I first bought my yguo SKS. I cleaned it when I bought it, then had this problem. A lot of them didn't go off on the first strike. I took the gun home and cleaned it. A week later I went to the range agin and it was worse. SEVERAL cleanings after that and several boxes of ammo later, it works just fine.

If you have an SKS, remove the bolt and bolt carrier. Check to see if the firing pin moves freely. Most of my FTF's went away after the pin was freed.
 
Soaking the bolt in mineral spirits is not going to get the cosmoline(presevative grease) out, but just soften it up. Then when the mineral spirits evaporate you still have the cosmoline inside the firing pin channel in the bolt.
You need to remove the firing pin,soak the bolt in mineral spirits again, and then use some pipe cleaners to remove all the cosmoline from the firing pin channel. Instructions and video on how to remove the firing pin can be found at http://www.simonov.net/uberpin.htm
